Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice hotel nestling in the leafy suburbs of Oxford; far enough for some peace and quiet and yet within easy distance of the City and all it has to offer. Large reception area and enough staff to ensure check in was fairly brisk. Rooms are well appointed and comfy and the food on offer was varied. As always, businesses rise or fall by the standard of training given to their staff and how they react. Staff were excellent and nothing was too much trouble. A word of caution because I made a mistake in the booking and did not ask for an easy access room which meant me and stick had some stairs and a fair walk to make. It was my fault and a lovely lady called Louise put me right on the correct procedure. On booking make sure you make your access requirements known in the comments box. If you forget, arrive and find yourself in difficulty advise them immediately and they will try and arrange a room move. Given that sort of service I shall come back here when next in the shires.

Stayed here for our anniversary. We used an Amazon local voucher for a premier room but when we arrived they only had standard room. Staff were helpful and breakfast was good. Would probably stay again but only with a voucher .

I received an Amazon Local voucher as a gift. It included a spa day for two with a 25 minute treatment and afternoon tea. We visited in October 2015.
The package itself was very good value, the beauticians were very accommodating and we upgraded to two treaments each (which at £15 a person we felt was very reasonable).
The massages and facials we received were of a high standard. My sister also used the gym which was of a good standard.
The facilities themselves are a little tired/shabby. Typical hotel spa, could do with a deep clean to remove the mould from around the tiles in the changing room, steam room etc. A couple of broken tiles in and around the pool need attending to and a good clean around the pool itself - it wasn't bad but just more attention to detail needed.
Its a shame as at one point we counted 5 staff in there - with us being the only ones using the facilities, so they had time on their hands (just not rubber gloves) ;-)
The included afternoon tea was lovely, we are fussy eaters and they substituted the sandwich fillings for us. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
In a nutshell, the staff were great, the package was excellent value but the maintenance needs looking at.

I was booked a mini spa day as a birthday present. I'd never been for a massage or facial before so didn't know what to expect.
The lady who gave me the treatment was a big woman and it was very painful and I flinched several times, I said it hurt so she said she'd try less pressure, I wasn't sure if it was because it was my first time and I was quite tense from working at a desk all day, I had told her this was my first mini spa.
After I left, I was in terrible pain and had to visit an osteopath to have treatment for the ribs in my back, which have never had a problem before. This has relieved some of the pain but I still will need to visit the osteopath again.
During the facial, she dug her fingers deep down into my face and I could feel my bones in my face, horrible sensation. Again I was extremely naive as had never received a facial before, and asked friends and family if that was normal as I never wanted to have a massage or facial ever again, to all were shocked and told me I should have felt relaxed.
Either the woman that works their is not properly trained or she is very unprofessional and shouldn't be working with the general public. avoid.

Let's start with a positive the meal on the second night was very nice but that's where the review ends after which customer service terrible on arrival they had completely mucked the room rates thankfully had my confirmation emails on my phone then got to nice room long walk and no lift then to get through to room service took nearly a hour.
Upon departure all the early issues arose once more regarding final bill after some 25 mins of discussion let's say and being told that they did not wish to take up my time well given they were trying to over charge by £150 I was quite prepared to wait around until sorted will in the end it was and paid the amount that I stated 25mins previously hope the change of hands to a new chain helps but the reception staff need to go or put through an extensive training course on customer service do not go must be better places in town

This is by no means a 'SPA' and to be advertised as such is a total disgrace. Imagine driving from London to be faced with a hotel leisure centre that looks at thought it dates back to the Jane Fonda Hey Day of the 1980's! Upon arrival we were given towels crispier that burnt toast and seated in an area that has not seen a lick of paint since at least 1989. For three Mum's on a relaxing break away from the kids and a mum-to-be, the last straw was the grim fitting room that has definitely seen better days.
The young guy that works on reception is lovely but unfortunately that was not enough to make us stay. Upon complaining of the facilities, he was quick to call the Duty Manager Louise who was helpful and referred us back to Wahanda where we were able to secure a full refund on our booking. We made our way to The Oxford Belfry where we had a lovely, relaxing day in a true 4* hotel spa.
Unfortunately, I would avoid this like the plague

Just come back from a 2 day Secret Escapes deal. Fantastic. Great value.
Staff friendly and helpful. Food great - evening meal, breakfast and afternoon tea.
Room standard but had all facilities you would expect and freshly decorated.
Nice spa again with all the facilities you would expect.
Great location. 2 miles from Oxford centre. Got a bus from right outside the hotel.
An added bonus was we liked their Facebook page and won a bottle of wine , which was just as well as their wine is expensive.
Highly recommend for a short break.

On arriving, the hotel is easy to find, just off Peartree roundabout on the A40. There is ample parking and a fairly nice foyer. On checking in it seemed that there may have been a problem with our reservation, but this was not explained to us, just worried faces - we didn't need that really. We were then given our room card, no directions as to where the rooms were or whether we wanted help with our case. They apologised for the delay and we went on our way through a maze of corridors until we reached our room 166. What a shock, I have never seen a hotel room so tiny! The room was clean but that was the only thing going for it. The window sill was chipped as was the desk/dressing table, the chair at the table had a ripped seam, there was no mini bar or fridge in the room, no TV reception - we were there to watch some TV in the evening as this was a stop gap hotel.
There was nowhere to stow our case and to be honest if I was staying more than 1 night I would have moved room or even hotel as it was so cramped my partner and I were falling over each other.
This is by no means a 4* hotel. There might have been a trouser press, an iron and ironing board in the wardrobe and climate control but that by no means enhanced our stay at The Oxford Hotel. I would not recommend and would never stay again In fact it was such a disappointment as I thought Barceló hotels were means to be superior. I would have been happier in a Travelodge.
