Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It has the accolade of being the oldest royal foundation in the city and was founded in 1326. Definitely an impressive provenance.
It gets its name from acquiring in the very early days a property called La Oriole. Around 600 students attend, comprising undergraduate and graduate.
Marvellous edifices and quads are an inherent aspect of it. None more so than the building on High Street that was completed in 1911 and funded by Cecil Rhodes. A statue of him is in a prominent high position on the façade.
Rhodes studied at the college and later was a key figure in the Empire who made his fortune by exploiting people and resources in Africa. In recent years there have been protests at the continuing presence of the statue and vehement calls for its removal.
A notice at the building says the college intended to take down the statue but that various issues prevented it from doing so. He remains in his elevated niche.

Oriel College was founded in 1326 and is simply the best college at Oxford University. College members excel in sporting, academic and social activities. This elite and beautiful college is a must see. An Orielensis.

It costs £3 to enter and you get a leaflet with background information on it . As there are works going on you only get to visit one quad , the dining hall and the chapel . It would not have been worth the cost other than for the fact the choir turned up to record some songs and we were allowed to stay in the chapel and listen . That was just wow .

A lovely college to visit with some fascinating statues, particularly one of the late, great Cecil Rhodes. Worth a visit before this disappears forever!

It was hard to disagree with the Provost who described Oriel as the best college in Oxford.
An excellent meal and good company.

As with all these colleges the architecture is beautiful. Quiet on a sunny autumn afternoon after walking from the nearby meadow. Surrounded by small streets and alleyways

The statue is high up on the wall facing the main road. I'd seen pictures of it before, but nothing beats going there to see it in person. The staff were helpful - tourists can get to see the statue even if the college itself is closed to tourists.

We dipped into Oriel college while on a walking tour and were taken into the dining room,it was amazing to see all of the people who had been through the doors of this college either in stained glass or portraits.
We also got to see the chapel.

We stayed in the college overnight and it was a really great location. Nice grounds and welcoming staff. Room was spacious & clean with tea and coffeee making facilities. Breakfast was included & the dining hall was like something from Harry Potter. Nice chapel too.
