Based in Nottingham’s historic Lace Market, the National Justice Museum is housed in Nottinghamshire’s Grade 2 listed old Shire Hall and County Gaol.

The Museum uses original Courtrooms, dungeons and prison cells, along with a number of more contemporary galleries to exhibit collections relating to justice, the law, crime and punishment in a fun and interactive way. When visiting the museum you may also meet a variety of colourful historical characters with different stories of justice to tell.

I remember going here on a school trip a few years back, it was spooky with good actors, we learned a lot about the Galleries and the old times. We also got to do role playing in the different areas, etc the Court room and the exercise yard, not sure if this is the case with every trip but it... More

Interesting place with lots of history. Wasn't worth £32 for the family. Actors were very well informed and did great talks.

This place has a very spooky atmosphere. A courtroom with a trial acted out. Then a tour of the dungeon cells, everyone is dressed as they would have been 200 years ago. Brilliant Acting,. Very atmospheric. Supposed to be haunted

Very friendly people there. The fella who took us round was entertaining and made it good for the kids (and us!); as did the other characters on the way round. Informative - makes you think, but not too gruesome. 10 and 13 year old really liked it and were quite suprised by this.

Am overall great afternoon out learning lots of new facts about the crimes taken place in the surrounding area and punishments taken place inside this building. Good tours around the place by well dressed actors. Lots of learning to be has to give yourself a few hours to get round and read everything properly.

Saw on the website it was re-opening on the 1st April so we decided to have a day out from Norfolk. Really glad we went. Well worth a visit, loved the court room acting and taking part. Loved looking at all the old cells etc the only thing I didn't like was how new it smelt. I know they have... More

We were passing on a day out in Nottingham so called in to have a look. We did not end up paying to actually go in and visit the galleries as we already had enough plans for the day ahead however we had a nice look around the lobby which looked great and the exterior. We spoke to the lady... More

We popped in early in the morning and were undecided whether to go around then or later in the day. We spoke with a really helpful lady on reception who also told us about the tour of the caves. We decided to pop back later to do this museum but then ran out of time but the reception area was... More

I stumbled into this place by accident, noticing 'James Gandon' as architect on the outside. How lucky I did ! A great exhibition, an intersing building, and a great tour by informed and interested guides. Who knew a visit to court and prison could be so much fun ! Outstanding best memory of our trip to Nottingham.

We visited the Galleries of Justice as part of a Paranormal investigation, which took place during the night, the staff on hand were very polite and helpful and did everything in their power to make the evening enjoyable. The location itself is big and packed with interesting and educational displays of times past, If you want to look into Englands... More
