Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Steel Rig and Crag lough walk - excellent team stationed at the car park - Steve, Doug and Josh. They were very informative and friendly, offering advice and sharing knowledge about the area. It was clear from their enthusiasm that they all loved their work and the area. Thanks for making our visit so memorable, we will definitely be back when it’s a bit cooler. The Sill visitor centre is also well worth a visit, although I have to confess that on this occasion I only called in to use the loo. Cheers, Jo and Andy

We walked from Housesteads to Steel Rigg via Sycamore Gap. We walked a mixture of the wall path and the military way. The military way is much easier underfoot but there are well marked paths whichever way you go. Some parts along the wall are very steep. Paths, stiles and fences are well maintained and good car parks which you pay for as you leave.

When Catcleugh reservoir was built in the 1890s a temporary town for up to 800 people was built up in the wilderness. At the completion of the work in 1907 the town was dismantled all except for one house that was used as a store until the 1960s. it was then forgotten about until the late 1980s when local people persuaded the National Park and Northumbria Water to preserve it. When they opened it up, it was as it had been since about the 1920s. Since 1990 a lot of research on the relatives of the people who lived in the town has been discovered.
The museum is open 4 Sundays in the summer and bookings can be made at the Once Brewed visitor centre or online. A tour of the house and the dam works is with a knowledgeable Park Ranger and the history of the temporary town is qite fascinating

It is highly recommend that one gets here as a part of a group, not individually. This place is creepy.

Just go there. If you live Liverpool way, leave M6 at Penrith and travel and get your kicks on Route A686, A great road, but it took longer because of the many breaks to photo-shoot.

This is such a beautiful, wild and extensive area of the British Isles. One can walk for miles and enjoy breathtaking scenery and spectacular views by day and enjoy star-filled clear skies by night. This is a very special area indeed and well worth visiting.

Went from Simonside near Rothbury. Followed the red track from the car park. Lovely woods to start with. But then you get up to the top of the hill and all the rock paths and rocky outcrops. Wow!! Kids, dogs and mum & dad all just adored this walk. Highlight of our week in beautiful Northumberland, which is saying something.
