Visit Roman Vindolanda today and you will find one of the North East’s most famous and not to be missed tourist attractions lying in the beautiful landscape of Hadrian's Wall Country. Formerly a key military post on the northern frontier of Britain, Vindolanda is the home of Britain's 'Top Treasure' - the Vindolanda Writing Tablets - and is one Europe's most important Roman archeological sites, with live excavations taking place every year. The recently fully refurbished on site museum provides a breathtaking exploration of the Trust's ongoing discoveries and accounts of Roman life. There are no other places on earth where it is possible to experience Roman Britain, Hadrian's Wall and history coming to life before your very eyes all in one space! Come and explore it for yourself and find out why Vindolanda is treasured worldwide.

Highly recommended. An extensive archaeological site, and the museum is outstanding, great exhibits, very well displayed, lots of interesting information. The café is also excellent - well priced, great hot chocolate & cake.

We visited on a cold wet day but the museum was superb - interesting artefacts laid out brilliantly with a wonderful amount of information. It really brings the Hadrians Wall experience to life

What a splendid place. All pretty new but really well laid out with an astonishing array of Roman artifacts in the museum and extensive excavations of a Roman fort and village on Hardian's Wall. Highly recommended for all ages.

This is a combination of an archeological site and a museum. The site is fascinating as it shows the lay out of the fort and village from the 4th century - a bit like Pompeii in many ways. They are still digging there and continuously...More

I've reviewed Vindolanda before and if I could give it 10 stars I would! This, in my opinion is THE BEST site for anyone even vaguely interested in the Roman past. This is an ongoing archaeological dig site (not in winter) and every time we're...More

Vindolanda should be included in any plans to visit Hadrian's Wall for the museum alone. The ruin site is huge but set up well with signs etc so I started easy to identify what you're looking at. The museum is something else, thought, and absolutely...More

huge site to explore and really like that they've re-created a section of the wall so you can see how high and impressive it would have been. Very detailed museum, probably a bit too much for younger visitors but if you want detail then this...More

We brought the joint ticket and visited the Roman Army Museum on the same day. Whilst the museum was good, Vindolanda was amazing!!! Gorgeous surroundings (nice view of Sycamore Gap as you are driving in), informative descriptions of the actual site, the wooden fort and...More
