The Red Tower no doubt comes to life when it is opened to the public. Outside of those times it serves as a pleasant architectural and historical feature but not something to go out of your way to visit.
Restoration of the Red Tower continues but doesn't hamper visiting it. During my recent visit there were a group of Re-enactors demonstrating how to load a cannon - greatly enjoyed by young and old visitors alike!
Unlike other Towers along York City Walls, the Red Tower is built of brick not stone - hence it is "Red". Thanks to the Friends of York Walls, the Red Tower is now being opened to the public so check their website for opening hours....More
