Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

The beautiful gardens & organ music (practice time) wafting out of this church invited me inside. The historic display at the back of the church was interesting, the large door at the back immense, the little chapel at the back beautiful, and the gardens peaceful. It is not far from Mickelgate Bar (gate). Note the umbrella racks attached to the... More

A volunteer at the York Minster suggested that I visit this delightful little church. He was certainly correct in that it would be worthwhile visiting. Especially as this church is reputed to have a haunted tower. As the tower windows are boarded up, it is impossible to see the ghost. Although this church is only small, I still enjoyed myself... This is a stunning little church in its own delightful garden in Goodramgate which, as many of your reviewers state, is easy to miss (it's opposite the small Tesco). The box pews are original, intrinsically interesting and well preserved as are some of the windows. Some while ago someone decided that to attract visitors they needed to flaunt owls and... More

Genuine 800 year old church with little restoration apparent, box pews making it a rarity and thankfully little sign of subsidence. Courteous volunteer staff who are not trying to extract your wallet or purse as soon as you walk in, helpful and providing good historical information. Personally this seemed to more like a religious place more than the Minster

This is a lovely little church, we struggled to find it but eventually found in just opposite Tesco extra on Goodramgate, it is a beautiful church and churchyard, there is a donation box just through entrance and it suggests £2 per person

You take a left on a busy bustling road in the city centre, you enter an immaculately looked after garden, and suddenly all the cities noise and sense of hurry are gone. Theres a big bell and a mallet at the entrance labelled 'ring for peace'. I didn't. I felt if anything it would break the peace. Inside the church... More

We were talking to a local who recommended visiting this little church. Although we were quite far away by the river her directions were spot on but it is very out of the way and we nearly missed it. So glad we didn't, it is delightful and very peaceful. We went back after lunch and sat in the gardens to... More
