Holy Trinity Goodramgate has the air of a hidden treasure. It stands in a small, secluded, leafy churchyard, with the Minster towering behind, tucked away behind Goodramgate - one of York's busiest shopping streets. To visit, you pass through an 18th-century archway tacked on to buildings that served as artisans' workshops in the 14th century. The church itself is full of character. The floors and arcades are charmingly uneven. Light filters through the windows, illuminating honey-coloured stone. The east window especially has marvellous stained glass that was donated in the early 1470s by the Reverend John Walker, rector of the church. On sunny days, transient gems of coloured light are scattered on the walls, and various Medieval faces stare out from the windows.

As others have mentioned you almost have to know this place exists in order to visit it (especially at the moment as the Main Street has lots of hoarding on it). I never for one second thought I’d be giving a church a 5 star...More

Found by accident when wandering around York. Wasn't even meant to be open but the volunteers love the place so much that they opened it anyway. Splendid box pews, incredible medieval glass and an atmosphere is peace and calm. Friendly volunteers who knew their stuff....More

Tucked away amongst the shops, wouldn't have known it was there without being told. Very interesting!

You would not know this existed as it is behind some old cottages with run down shop fronts. A lovely old church and the volunteers there could not have been more friendly and informative. a place not to miss

A charming little church and will be very pretty in a few weeks when the daffodils are out-quaint and very atmospheric.Visited as a student 40 years ago and have never forgotten it-a real toy of a building.

York has too many churches to count, but it’s worth going to this hidden gem when it’s open 11-3 Wednesday to Sunday. The boxed in pews are something different to any other church I’ve seen, and there was plenty of little information cards around explaining...More
