Myself and my friend felt very uncomfortable in this store. We were being watched constantly as we told the assistants we were browsing. The store has a security man standing inside the store which in my opinion was a bit over the top in such a small store. I will not be going into this store again, Leeds is more welcoming and friendly. Much better shopping experience.

We visited Stonegate again while in York and there really is something for everyone here. It is an attractive historic old street, full of interesting little shops to keep you occupied. There are a number of jewellers, the Teddy bear shop, book shops, restaurants, etc.

If you look up at the buildings as you walk along, you can see the fine detail on the eaves and roofs. It really is a unique street and the some of the buildings are just like they were in medieval times.

We visited one of the oldest streets in York dating back to the times of the Romans. It follows the route of the Roman road leading to the fortress under what is now the Minster. The road gets its name from the fact that most of the stone used in building the Minster passed along this street. The architecture is amazing, with fine detail on the eaves and roofs.

There are plenty of restaurants, craft shops and pubs here as well as boutiques and jewellers. However, there is a dark side to Stonegate. At No. 35 many people were murdered and human bones were found in the brickwork of the Olde Star Inn.

Stonegate is definitely worth a visit if you are in York and most of the buildings there look exactly the same as they did in medieval times.

Considering I spent £500 in this store, the manager is one of the rudest people I have ever come across! Next time will buy online and benefit from the sample sizes sent as extra. Avoid this store in York if u want the personal touch as these lack empathy and compassion!

On Monday 20th August I had the misfortune of walking into Pandora, a gift and souvenir shop in Stonegate, York. My intention was to buy two white rose of Yorkshire fridge magnets - one for my friend and one for myself. However, instead of putting each fridge magnet into separate paper bags as requested, the rather arrogant and sour-faced shop assistant shook her head and snapped, "No, one payment; one bag!". Anyway, to cut a long story short, I left the shop regretting that I had ever entered it in the first place. And now I'm back home in Spain, every time I look at my white rose of Yorkshire fridge magnet it just reminds me of the unpleasant experience I had buying it in this shop in York.

If anything typifies York - it is Stonegate. Unspoilt old paving leading down a major shopping artery of the city with all sorts of wonderful majestic ancient buildings on either side that ooze charm and history...and mystery.

It is a perfectly formed encapsulation of everything "York". Small independent traders; chain shops; coffee bars; tea shops and cafe's:gift shops; real ale havens - 6 decent pubs in the space of 300 feet !!!; and takeaway food outlets;

There are snickleways that lead to hidden yards such as coffee yard and Barley Hall or the York Medical Society reading rooms where you can see old instruments of torture that passed for medical instruments in the 19th century.

All situated in the shadow of York Minster... what could be better or more fitting...

My wife and I really enjoyed our stroll down this quaint pedestrian street. It links the river district to the minster, and is full of shops, restaurants and bars, unfortunately, because of the current pandemic, many of them are closed.

Quieter than normal but that was to be expected due to COVID but everyone was well behaved and was wonderful to see many shops open and running as well as could be had given the circumstances currently.

This is one of the oldest streets in York dating back to the times of the Romans. The architecture is special - make sure you look up to see the fine detailing on the eaves and roofs.
There are some chain store outlets but also some one offs that you will only find here and there is a great choice of things to eat and drink and some fine jewellers and craft shops.
Can get busy but worth the visit.
Particularly enticing at Christmas when the carol singing will melt the heart of the most dyed in the wool Scrooge (allegedly!)

This is a lovely quaint area of York with a good mix of independent quirky shops, high-end emporiums and standard chains. There are also some lovely places to stop and have a drink if you need a break from shopping.
