It is well worth walking the complete way round the city walls. They are narrow in parts, with stone steps and stairs with no safety rail and a small child would need very close supervision. They are obviously, not at all suitable for wheel chair users. The best views of the city are to be had from near the railway... More

Being in the city for a few days up from Norwich, I found York very familiar. Many of the same type of city characteristic are shared between the cities. The York City Walls are an amazing way to experience the city. Following the footsteps of the past, the walls take you by many great view, and in/around many of the... More

I love walking on the city walls, especially on a sunny day. You get a different perspective of the views of the buildings of York as you are much higher than you would be nomally. It's great for families as it's free, and all kids need is a bit of imagination to pretend they are in a different time.

In my view this walk is best done early on a bright crisp morning. As you circle the city you see it coming to life. Shops and bakeries opening. Deliveries arriving, commuters setting out, public transport picking up passengers.....and all of this type of activity has been going on for 1900 years. It really represents the timeless history of this... More

We had a lovely walk round the walls, interesting sites and a nice way to walk round the city. Just be carful with young children as some sections don't have a guard rail, just a drop of 6-10 foot

then this is a good one. I only walked a little of it but did find it to be quite nice. It wasn't a difficult walk and there were some lovely views.

Walked around the wall, good to do and good view as walking round. No barrier on some parts of wall so not for the faint hearted..
