No visit to York is complete without a stroll along part of the 2 miles of historic walls that have protected the city for nearly 2000 years. Recently visited York to go to a show at the Barbican Centre and stayed over night in a hotel nearby. I arrived in York early afternoon, so after checking in to my hotel, i decided I would have a walk around York and decided to walk round on the wall, and enjoyed it as I ended up seeing parts of... A must when visiting York, most of it is quite interesting, but it does go round some fairly poor designed houses. Wall is broken in several places, but on the whole a lovely thing to do

I'm slightly biased in that my experience of walking on city walls is Dubrovnic in Croatia, which is stunning. Within the walls is a heritage sight and is beautiful from every area. This is not the case with York walls, with views of office blocks, council houses and traffic. Only the end containing the Minster is worth the walk.

Excellent place to be in York and nearby villages. Lots of greenery and very good sight of national park.

The wall entrances are located around the city and are a fun walk and good exercise since you are not in the crowded streets. I don't think jogging is permissible

Much scenery as it is high up in a city known for its architecture and beauty. March is a good time to go because the foliage is bare enough to see the buildings. Combined with the free walking tour, one gets a good feel for the town. The only caveat is, there are places where there is no railings, which... More

I really enjoyed walking the city walls. It wasn't always obvious where to go to pick up the next part of the walk but was worth the trouble to find out. Lovely views and so many daffodils!

Red about these walls and really enjoyed the walk, not a continuous walk, had to get off a couple time them go to the next part of the wall which was well signposted. Great view over the gardens of york
