My wife and I had rejoined HHA (£75.....visited 25 properties last year) and whilst in North Yorkshire we decided to visit first Beningbrough Hall (NT) (10 miles 25 mins) in the morning and then Sutton Park in the afternoon as there was only tours at 1.30 and 2.45 (it is only open on certain days so check HHA web). We called in here on our way home from Wensleydale. Unfortunately we got our timings wrong, arriving a few minutes late for the house tour. We weren't able to wait for the next tour and so limited ourselves to a look around the gardens. These were beautifully laid out and contained some very interesting plants, shrubs and trees. When we... More

Sutton Park is not a huge rambling stately home. More of a lived in place but full of interest. The guide was excellent if a little acerbic. Worth a visit!

Even during the summer holidays Sutton Hall has been closed to the public. We used to spend several days in the holidays walking through the grounds and woods. Really missed it this year. It seems as though the shop and cafe have closed down too. Very sad.

The house and gardens are only open at limited times during the year and as HHA members we have free access so despite the August bank holiday being a bit wet we took the opportunity to visit. We arrived in time for the 2:15 tour (there are only 3 tours each open day). The tour lasted just over an hour... More

Quite a interesting house. Reasonable guided tour. The gardens are worth a walk round, the small tea is OK. Free to HHA members.

The last time we visited was about fifteen years ago, so as we were passing decided to call in again. The chap at the ticket office was very helpful, and explained the layout - giving us a map of the grounds to use on our initial walk about. We then went to the uninspiring cafe for a cup of tea... We wanted to visit this house, but there are rather restricted opening times, so we were not surprised to find we were the only two people on the tour. The guide was excellent. Lots to see in the rooms, including the architects design for the original Buckingham House in London. Not too overseeing, with quite a homely feel. Wonderful gardens... More
