Freshly made food by voluntary workers at a pittance, on a viewing platform entered from the Shambles, with a jumble sale outside with seating. It's so vintage and on most days, unlike Harrogates Methodist hall which is Saturday. Love it

Set near the junction of Pavement and the Shambles, the small parish hall is all that is left of St Crux church, one of the large parish churches in York. It is now open during the summer as a fund raising tea room. Different charities can ‘rent’ it for one day a year. Inside is a small serving counter with... More

Went in for the first time today - how lovely to go somewhere with character that won't charge a tenner for coffee and cake. I was served by a 70 year old trainee! Will be back again soon!

At the bottom of the Shambles lies this little gem. Outside, you see a a few stalls selling bits & bobs for charity: one stall has everything priced at 50p whilst others were a tad more. There are a few tables outside as well where you can sit with a drink & snack on a better day. It all looks... More

St Crux is what was the hall of St Crux Church, a large imposing Church that was demolished longer ago than I can remember. I have volunteered to help here when various organisations have hired it for the day and also called in here for a reasonably priced snack, lunch or drink and never been disappointed. Many of the customers... More

What a lovely find, just there at the end of The Shambles! I first saw the tables and chairs in the courtyard full of people and wondered if inside would be full up too but there were chairs available both times I went there. I had wonderful homemade coffee cake both times at a very reasonable price. In fact, the... More

Different charities/churches of York run the café for their own fundraising so every visit is unique. Always excellent home baked cakes, also stalls and outside eating area. Prices are set so even though it's a different group running the café each time they stay the same. Excellent value for what you can buy and your helping them to raise money... More
