When you think that something has been standing for 2,000 years, its kind of mind boggling to think of what this structure has witnessed. This place has real Roman caskets that we made 2,000 years ago and have stayed there for that long. Incredible. It is definitely worth checking out. And it's free.

The Roman Multangular Tower can be found in the Museum Gardens and is one of a number of sites in the garden which makes them so special. There is a path through the fern garden which takes you inside the tower (however there is a gate which was locked when I visited at 18.30). There is no internal structure to... More

Most of the Roman construction in York is buried well below ground indicating how the street - levels have risen in the several hundred years since Eboracum was established. The lowest strata are a small fragment of the impressive fort created by the Romans. That is the significance for me that the lower levels of the tower have weathered time... More

The Tower get's it name from it's 10 sided construction and is the only surviving tower out of eight that protected the city. Walk around the tower and you can see exposed parts of the wall and how well they were constructed, it's amazing that this tower is still standing.

Others have been a little dismissive of this piece of history in the delightful museum gardens. The fact that this tower still stands is testament to the strength of the original foundations which formed part of the defences to the garrison of Roman Eboracum now called York. The subsequent layers of stone above were added as York grew through the... More

While this is "just" an octagonal stone tower and doesn't merit a second glance... It is in fact part of the Roman walls of York - and so is 1800 years old. Amazing that it has survived so long, so well and so extensively

It really is just a piece of wall in the castle museum gardens. As part of the whole Roman history in York this is not to be missed but a stand alone attraction it is not. It is what it says it is, a tower with several facets of outer wall, nothing more, nothing less. Not a very tall tower... More

It's really fascinating and when you go inside you can see the different architectural styles, with the different roman and medieval influences. Doesn't look much but very interesting and dynamic inside. Great way to spend a wee bit of time in the bustling city.
