We bought a York pass which enables entry to a number of attractions around York, castle Howard, about 30 minutes drive from York is included in that deal. Everything about this house is grandiose, the tree lined avenue leading to castle, the rose garden, the lake, the fountain, the gardens, the temple, the monument and certainly not least of all... Magnificent building, well worth a visit. The staff in the house were very pleasant and informative and helped to make the day special. We also had a very good tour of the walled garden and were very impressed with the guide.

There's a lot to do and see, be prepared for half a day, even a whole day to get best value from your visit. The history of the family and Estate is fascinating, including the Earls of Carlisle and BBC's maverick George Howard, ultimately a Life Peer, connections too with Winifred Nicholson and Ben Nicholson eminent artists in their time.... What a wonderful place to visit. We have been visiting Castle Howard for three years now and bought an annual pass so visit at least once a week. There is always something new to see - each season brings a different scene to view - at the moment the rhododendrons are flowering - which is breath-taking in Ray Wood. The... More

Visited Castle Howard from a brief stay in York after easter,on a whim really, but owing to a 30 year obsession with Tudor history. The grounds wowed me before we even stepped inside the house,so well maintained but so accessible,no forbidding notices on the lawned gardens as you get with some stately homes. The scale of the grounds blew me away, and despite many... While spending time in York for my sons 19th birthday he had asked if we could go...am I glad that we did. The gardens are exceptional, plenty of photo opportunities. There is a little train that can take you around the grounds if wanted, we chose to walk and take in the scenic views. Once visited the grounds have a... More

We were staying a five min drive from this grand house so it would have been foolish not to visit, we weren't disappointed the architecture is stunning, the guides very approachable and knowledgeable, obviously the weather plays a big part as its not just the house but the grounds also make the experience even more palatial.

Well I was taken aback by the shear size & beauty of this wonderful estate. And it gives so much. The house itself is stunning & really gets the mind spinning. Such wealth!! The history the staff & notice boards provide helps paint a wonderful picture of the many decades of the family The art & the decor.....wow It just... More

we had a great visit, we arrived when the grounds opened at 10.00 and spent a lovely 30 minutes wandering around the empty grounds, we entered the house just after it opened at 10.30 and pretty well had the place to ourselves, my husband who is a keen photographer managed to take photos of the whole place without having a...
