About York Cat Trail
FREE FUN IN YORK... aka The Fabulous York Cat Trail provides both visitors and locals with the opportunity to find and photo the numerous statues of cats which are on York's old buildings. These were put there to frighten away rats and mice. The statues were also thought to ward off wandering evil spirits and to bestow good luck and good health on people. Enjoy the trail... it's FREE! You are warmly invited to download it from our website, or to pick it up from our Shambles based shop

Enjoyed the cat spotting , as a cat lover I made a bee line for the cat shop and then enjoyed walking around looking for the cats. Didn't spot them all so well just have to come back one day.

My wife picked up a leaflet for the cat walk from our hotel, and I immediately rolled my eyes. I could see how today was going to pan out: I would be dragged around York looking for some stupid statues and having a thoroughly miserable...More

We happened across a flyer in the hotel for the Lucky Cat Trail. There’s also a store called ‘York Glass Store’ that sells glass cat figurines among other things - I think they are the ones who put the trail together. All over York, there...More

I think it largely depends on the number and ages of the children you're with, and how busy York is. You can easily just do some of the clues, we spent a good 30 minutes following the trail, did some shopping and found... More
