    Lovely gardens in peaceful setting,
The gardens are really lovely housing some very interesting buildings. Our foster grandson loved all the squirrels and took many photos of them. They were lovely to watch. The gardens are so relaxing away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre, but do have great buildings to see. We had been to the railway museum which is nearby and noticed the gardens. We are glad that we went in and would certainly go there again.
Hi there, thanks for your review! So glad you and your grandson enjoyed all the wildlife in the Museum Gardens!

    Don’t miss this
Really lovely! Even in January. I missed this the first time I was in York last year. This time our hotel was on the other end of the gardens and my daughter and I had so much fun looking at the ruins & green space. When we walked back to the hotel at 4:30 pm it was twilight (being January) and everything was especially beautiful, haunting, and evocative in the shadows and glimmering sunset light. The ruins caught my heart and I can’t believe people get to live in a place where such a thing sits for centuries. Beautiful. Well worth including in your visit to York, what a historic treasure.
Thank you so much for your kind review, we love seeing the ruins all times of year. They are really special, we hope you will be back to visit us again many times in the future!

    A must visit
Great place to visit. The gardens, the church ruins and Museum all full of history. Well worth a visit. The gardens are well maintained by volunteers, the church is a great photo opportunity and the Museum is definitely worth a visit, full of artifacts and history.

    Beautiful Gardens
The most beautiful grounds with stunning, dramatic tulips both in the main gardens and the edible wood. A place to sit and relax with plenty of benches. Close to the river Ouse. Peaceful and Beautiful with historic buildings . Nature is being supported with plants, wood piles for animals and insects, and insect houses. A great way to spend the day.
Hi there, Thank you very much for this kind review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the gardens, we do hope you will be back to visit again another time soon!

A beautiful space to stop and take a breath
A beautiful space right by the train station, easily found on foot and a gorgeous spot. Quiet, pristine scenery with beautiful flowers, well kept green space with the rich history of the abbey ruins. A place to sit and enjoy the quiet, explore the history and just breathe. A beautiful space.
Thank you for your kind review, Samantha. We are pleased to hear you had such a pleasant visit. Do come back and see us again soon.

The gardens provide a respite from the frenetic activity of the city. We enjoyed a quiet hour or so people watching, eating our picnic and enjoying the hot weather.
We then walked around to see the ruins of the abbey. Like other parts of York it is not very well looked after compared to other city parks but pretty none the less.

Unfortunately a lot of the gardens were flooded but really enjoyed the exhibition that was on at the museum, Medieval York. Fascinating to see the artefacts that have been uncovered in and around York from Roman to Tudor times. Well worth a visit.

Love visiting Museum Gardens on any trip to York I take, such a relaxing oasis of calm ,lots to see and enjoy, its just an extremely popular destination to check out if you're planning a trip to York.
Walking along Museum Street into Museum Gardens you have the wonderful Water Drinking Fountain and the ruins of the medieval St Leonards Hospital plus the Waterworks Engine House Building, the grounds in these gardens are well kept ,nice pathways and benches to sit and chill out in ,the old ruins of St Mary's Abbey look cool and you can see the beautiful St Olave's Church here ,you also have the very impressive York Museum and York Observatory in the grounds, we visited here on a Tuesday afternoon, roasting hot, my twin brother Stephen and I had a picnic in the gardens ,loved our visit here and when we are back in York ,very soon hopefully we will revisit it again.
Most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

As the Museum Gardens is near where we stay, we walk through it more than once but we always make sure that we set time aside for a "proper" visit as well.

The ruins of St. Mary's Abbey are within the gardens and well worth a look. There are some other interesting historical feature including some Roman sarcophagi tucked away on one area and the Medieval Hospitium that is now largely used for weddings. It is possible to see into the graveyard of the small but fascinating Church of St. Olave's which is practically next to one of the entrances on the Abbey side.

It is lovely garden to just sit and relax and for children to play. It is an ideal picnic spot.

Our favourite part of all is the Edible Garden / Wood which is packed with interesting plants and wonderful smells.

Like many other visitors we find the squirrels endearing and next time we go we intend to do the Squirrel Trail even though we know that it doesn't actually involve the actual squirrels.

It is very convenient for other sites and experiences including York Minster, the walls, the Yorkshire Museum and the Tour Bus.

Can you spot the 'ghosts' in these pictures? đź‘»
In this park, cleverly installed by artists are 'ghosts', which is in line with York's theme of being the most haunted city in the world. 'Haunted' is a term most nonchalantly used here. I stick with the word 'serene'. 🌸

York Museum Gardens is located in the heart of York, just next to the River Ouse.
The ruins in the pictures, St Mary's Abbey, have lasted a millennium - since 1088.
Truly, York is a quaint city filled with history and lore. 🏰

Nice ice cream van just through the main gates and they do Vegan!!! We found a bench and took a seat and enjoyed the bustle of people coming and going. They had a bird of prey event where we saw the birds and you could pay to hold them and have pictures taken. The museum was closed on this day.

As most English gardens, well kept and the place to sit down and just admire the river passing by. Just this day we happened to come as the Royal Salute in the honour of HM the Queen was held at noon. Not an occasion to be missed if you have the opportunity. Impressive show by the Yorkshire Regiment!

Beautiful garden to sit and relax with a picnic. Plenty of space for social distancing, amongst the lovely trees, and just a stone’s throw from the city centre.

Be warned, if you’re there with children, there are no climbing on the trees and this is strictly enforced.

We went to a Jack Savoretti concert on the 18th July . Now we have been to many outdoor concerts but this is the only one where the stage is at the TOP of the hill . l do know the logistics of the venue may determine it's position but it makes for difficult viewing for the audience because unless you are stage front you are trying to see over the heads of people in front and on higher ground. Ancient amphitheatres , arenas , cinemas and sports facilities all look down on the " stage ". On the plus side the bars were a very slick operation , big queues dealt with in minutes by a very efficient system and bar staff.
