This is an Iconic feature of Whitby, relating to it's whaling past. I understand these are not the originals, but if this icon is to remain it seems to require urgent conservation work as a result o it's exposed location.

It's an arch made out of whale bones. Impressive in terms of its scale - if you stand underneath it you get a lovely view of Whitby harbour. Besides that, it's just an arch - difficult to review because if it's absolute simplicity!

Visited this whalebone arch when I was a child. Didn’t realise it was real! Brilliantly placed on the cliff tops at Whitby and gives you and idea of the scale of these magnificent creatures. Also found out it was gifted from the state of Alaska....More

The whalebone arch along with the adjacent Capt Cook memorial is what the historic Port of Whitby is all about. (Followed by whale and chips nearby). It would be a tragedy for anybody to visit the town and not visit here for a selfie photo...More

One of my favourite statues and my granddaughter was even more captivated by the fact that she had stood next to the famous Captain Cook. The view is superb.

Near to the Captain Cook Memorial so worth walking up too. Good views of Whitby, can be a bit breezy up there on a windy day.
