Neighbourhood: Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Myself, my daughter and my mum went to watch the Odyssey at The Scoop 16/8/17. We only stayed for the first act as we knew the rest wasn't likely to be suitable for children but it was unbelievably good.
My 7 year old was in tears of laughter for most of the performance-she especially loved the dog/baby and has been singing the songs repeatedly since!
I'd love to return to watch the whole performance, however, won't be in London until after it finishes. I will be looking out for further events at The Scoop though-brilliant venue and an amazing free show!

This sunken ampitheatre in the heart of London is just fantastic. I first went here to see our favourite band Ronnie Scott's Rejects play and to dance with the London Swing Dance society in 2013. I have since been back to see various events - all for FREE! Couldn't have been better. A beautiful and cool setting. Hope RSR do it again this year, I will be looking for them in the upcoming programme.

The scoop should be on everyones to do list in London, with free performances of music, theatre and films, throughout the summer. I recently watched "gods and monsters" and although not to my personal taste, the quality of acting was very high and on a warm summers evening, with Tower Bridge as a backdrop, was very special. This theatre production is part of a free outdoor summer festival which takes place at the sunken amphitheatre, adjacent to City Hall. September is film season, so I might make a return visit.

This can be very pleasant on a sunny day. It is open air, and you just sit on concrete steps or watch from the top wall. A lot of people buy food and drink from one of the nearby stalls and watch the show. It is all generally quite informal. The act I was watching did not particularly impress me, but some of the shows are advertised in advance and you can probably choose something that you are going to enjoy.

This is a great place to visit, as they have various music and plays on during the summer months. We recently went and watched two separate plays. We have also joined in the mass karaoke which is brilliant (atmosphere is outstanding) . You just take your seat in the amphitheater, be sure to take your own drink and picnic snacks etc sit back and enjoy, and it’s all free what a better way to spend a weekend evening.

Wed through to Sunday until Sept 3rd, Gods and Monsters put on their version of Homer's Odyssey, staged as part of the London Bridge City Summer Festival, Phil Wilmott has once again created a fantastic evening of entertainment. The fist hour (there are three parts but you dont have to see them all...I recommend that you do! ) especially is suitable for young and old alike. Take a cushion (concrete is hard!), a warm rug (it can get chilly) and a picnic (or buy food locally) and settle down to watch the story of Odysseus unfold.

Perhaps surprisingly and despite the website warnings about no glass etc, there were lots of glass bottles and no stewards in sight at this event. Being surrounded by bars almost inevitable the arena was surrounded by rowdy youngsters, with little consideration for those trying to watch and listen to the opera. It's a shame because it is a great location, but I do think there should be more stewards and a quiet buffer zone marshalled between the bars and the arena

We were totally blown away by this beautiful venue in the heart of London. A 'scooped out' arena with fantastic FREE entertainment. It was such a treat to see a live band of such quality and for it not to cost a penny. Visited in June 2013.

Mi-Soul Radio are providing some amazing soul music events every Sunday by the Scoop at the London Rivera until the end of September 2016. The vibe is simply amazing and passers by just get drawn into the amazing fun and happiness! Really a great place to be on a Sunday afternoon from 4pm until 10pm! Drinks are good value for money, too, from the bar there. Highly recommended in every way if you love music, happy vibes, dancing for all of the family!
