Visited as part of a bookshop tour (see Bluestocking Books tours) around Bloomsbury. Lovely welcome for all of our group. Wide range of own publications, re-publishing excellent but forgotten and/or neglected books now languishing in unjustifiable obscurity. Beautiful quality printing incl typeface and paper, bound...More

Persephone Books publishes works, primarily fiction, by women authors who were once well known but whose works were out of print. I went seeking Tirzah Garwood's Long Live Great Bardfield, her autobiography, and also found a biography of Vanessa Bell and a recounting by Virginia...More

Persephone Press publishes a wonderful selection of writing by women authors old and new. Take your time to browse each and every one of them, with their lovely jackets and matching bookmarks. The setting also helps. It's like being inside someone's cozy living room.

This is not a go in and grab a book shop. Its a browse and chat and think about what you would like to read next. It is not snooty highbrow by any means. It is a place to be thoughtful with thoughtful shop assistants...More
