Neighbourhood: Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighbourhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.

You can whizz around in an hour if you are short of time, or spend 2+ hours exploring every display in detail. Some interesting facts about the early years and an amazing collection of memorabilia for all ages. They show you how consumer culture started from the Victorian era to today. It talks about how historical events have influenced/created products, which was fascinating. You’re also able to see how common household brands have evolved over time. Very informative and highly recommend this as a visit! There’s even a nice little cafe at the end. Thanks for the recommendation, it's great to hear we exceeded your expectations.Written 22 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 October 2023
- smithla71Telford, United Kingdom53 contributionsFantastic Aladdins CaveIve been wanting to visit this museum for some time, but it havent been able to until a recent visit. I was expecting a trip down memory lane with a little brand nostalgia. It was far far better than I had expected. I loved every minute of it. Its a fantastic place to visit and something for everyone. It would be nice if the gift shop had got some reproduced items for sale, but do understand the manufacturing cost maybe more than a shopper may want to payThanks for the wonderful review, it's so nice to hear that we surpassed your expectations. We appreciate the feedback about the gift shop, this definitely something we are trying to introduce in future.Written 20 December 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 December 2023

It's kind of sensory overload and you maybe need to be a certain kind of person to be into it, but I really liked it. Well worth the £10 or whatever! Thanks for the great review, it's so lovely to hear such great feedback. - Sahloff79Peterborough, United Kingdom651 contributionsBrand-tastic!A fascinating trip down memory lane. Who knew that looking at old drinks cans, wrappers and packets could evoke so many memories! The time tunnel was great ranging from Victorian to the present day - you tend to linger more on the decade you grew up in I suppose. 80s child! I found the exhibition space most interesting with the UK’s top 100 brands section and a focus on the changing packaging of particular products - Matey bubble bath and harpic! Spent a few hours here - only slight issue was the sheer amount of things to look at was quite overwhelming and I needed a good lie down afterwards! Thanks for the review, it's great to hear you enjoyed our exhibition space as well as the main collection. There were regular shouts of 'ooh, look at that' and 'do you remember them?' well worth a visit. Such a huge collection of many different brands ranging from food packaging, toys, music and events in british history. If you are a designer/creative/product designer then you really do need to visit. It's amazing to see how some of the countries most iconic brands have changed over time. Visited during the week so this added to the experience as you weren't rushed around. Nice little cafe and gift shop at the entrance/exit too. It began as a private collection but has grown into a thoughtful look at how we live through the objects we buy. It's like stepping into a time capsule to see household goods from everyday life repackaged over the years to keep a brand fresh and sought-after. Toys, vinyl records, food and drink all feature. Cold, dark, expensive and overcrowded with similar or repeat items. I had heard about this museum but hadn’t realised how poor and limited it was. There were too many exhibits, often repeated - note the recurrence of cereal boxes. Parts of the museum were stacked with grubby unpacked boxes, it was poorly lit and totally devoid of heating on a chilly January day. Consider these failings and then note the admission price. I cannot recommend this place or contemplate a return visit.

Hi Elaine,
Thank you for taking the time to write a review about the Museum. I'm so sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your experience. We have been experiencing issues with a water leak that has severely affected the collection, this had meant that many boxes were being moved around to ensure that historic objects did not get damaged. This water leak has also affected our heating system. I'm so sorry that this disrupted your visit and if you would like to come and visit us again please do feel free to get in touch with me via email - liam@museumofbrands.com.
Our collection features more than 12,000 original everyday objects from the Victorian era right up to the present day. It It is the only collection of its kind in the world. Naturally there are repetitions with this type of collection, however this makes us the only place where visitors can physically trace the evolution of specific brands and packaging types through different decades (such as cereal boxes and chocolate bars).
Kind regards,
Liam Montgomery

I finally got around to visiting this museum, and had mixed feelings about it. i had expected to see a comprehensive display depicting, demonstrating and explaining the evolution of brands. Some parts of the museum have little to do with branding......there are numerous displays of old children's toys and games, many of which are not branded. A large showcase of old radios by the cafe would be more interesting if one could see more detail (with better lighting and lower shelving) and understand the evolution from old valve radios through to "trannies" which were so important to teenagers in the 60s. No mention anywhere of radio advertising, which had to be clandestine through Radio Luxembourg, Caroline and London, before the government permitted commercial radio belatedly in the 70s. Video loops of early tv commercials from 1955 and beyond would also add atmosphere.
The main displays are viewed in glass cases through a "time tunnel" commencing in the late 19th century and evolving sequentially to the present day. This is logical - and along the way are product samples, store displays, posters and other artifacts depicting well loved brands, and also the huge number of formerly popular brands which now no longer exist. The older you are, the more it will stir your memories!
All in all, a pleasant and interesting small museum with a nice café at the back, and small garden. You'll need an hour, or up to 2 hours depending on how it grabs you. Brands make an interesting subject, and are part of our social heritage. There's plenty of scope to improve the experience further.

We saw this advertised on a tv show and were really glad we booked tickets.
On arrival the girl behind the desk was happy and friendly. The museum was much bigger inside that we expected and we spent about 1 hour 45 minutes here. We could have spent longer if we had been to the cafe too but we had made other plans for lunch. The whole layout is very well done and brought back so many memories. More staff if the shop were again fantastic. Very recommended.

This is an amazing museum. It's only small, but it is well laid out and full of exhibits that triggered for me so many memories. It's a timeline of toys, food and household goods and technology through the years. Museum is 5-10 minutes walk from Ladbroke Grove tube, and it well worth a visit. I did the quiz on the website and received a discount code for 2 for 1 entry.

We are so glad we visited the Museum of Brands. There is something for people of all ages, and it's a fascinating trip through history. We loved the 70's and 80's brands, but my mum would have loved the 40's and 50's section. Our kids have visited and they loved all the artefacts from the early noughties. Without knowing who he was, I got talking to the owner of this collection (Robert Opie) in the cafe at the end of the visit. What a treat to meet someone who has spent his life building up this collection. I promised him I would write a review on Trip Advisor endorsing his museum, but I would have given this attraction 5 stars anyway. This is one of London's gems, and we loved it. Highly recommended for all ages.

Lovely and interesting museum. We really enjoyed walking around with our kids and telling them stories about the objects in the museum we recognised. And the garden café is a little gem in the middle of west London.

The Brand Museum is an excellent museum that holds a massive collection of brands and packaging that has something for everyone. Whether you remember the original name for Kit Kat or used to own a space hopper, the museum shows us the history of all the things we bought and then threw away. A story of consumer culture and the objects we once owned but still remember. Highly recommended. Lovely little secluded garden out back for sitting and eating your lunch too.

Wasn't sure what to expect when I first came across it on Google but all of the positive reviews swayed me into going. They were absolutely spot on went with an older adult who enjoyed reminiscing about the 'good old day's' of brands and products and even as someone who hasn't been around that long (I'm 33) seeing products I remember from the 90s and noughties which even today no longer exist gave me a lovely and warm feeling of nostalgia. The museum is easy to get too (5-10 minutes walk from Ladbroke Grove station) and once inside you are faced with display cabinets stuffed to the brim with old memorabilia. Really worth while to visit (after the lockdown of course) a shame its not advertised well as it should be up there in the top 10 places to visit in London as far as I'm concerned.

Wow! This museum is a wonderful find, hidden away in Notting Hill, even the cab driver who dropped us off said he'd driven past many times in his 37 year career and didn't even know it was there! The entrance is colourful, bright and airy, and the reception staff are likewise, and seem genuinely excited for you to share this nostalgic treat. Entry is less than £10 and you can Gift Aid to help this beautiful place continue jogging memories and colouring dreams. The collection moves from household items and brands in the Victorian era right through to the present day, and elicits many whoops of delight from visitors as they remember something from childhood or marvel at some brands which have hardly changed their packaging. It's a fascinating collection, carefully curated and expertly displayed for maximum impact. The cases are positioned so that you do not know what delights await you around the corner and there are a few chairs dotted about so that you can sit and have a moment of nostalgia. Every case holds something to marvel at and I could have spent hours here looking for all the detail in the grocery, and pharmacy stores. When you are done laughing, giggling and remaniscing there is a lovely cafe area offering snacks and drinks. This also includes a beautiful "secret garden" which could easily be overlooked, but which is well worth a 30 minute's relaxation or so. This museum is quirky informative and fun, and is definitely in my top 3 favourite museums in London. Would throughly recommend a visit.

Is the student discount only for UK students? I am a college student from the United States and my sister is in high school. Would the discount still apply to us?

The best thing is probably to contact them directly and ask, but in my experience any valid student ID tends to be accepted where there are student rates advertised.

It depends - it is not huge so you could wizz through quickly if you are pushed for time, but it is densely packed with plenty to see - there is also a lovely garden again slightly weather dependent how long you might want to spend. I would recommend to allow two hours for a relaxed visit.
