So let me set the scene - the Vortex is a London jazz institution. Formed in Stoke Newington about 30 years ago it relocated to this slightly insalubrious square in Dalston about 10 years ago. The venue is atmospheric, although very cramped and functional. The...More

This small venue in hipster Dalston is an authentic newish Old Skool Jazz venue, Its quite compact which means even at a sellout gig you are still close to the stage and the acoustics are great, as it should be for jazz, you can really...More

Robust jazz club with original jazz attitude. A good local jazz band was performing the night I visited the club and the audience was there to listen the music, not to visit a must to see club. Highly recommedated.

My friend and I left Portsmouth late afternoon to see Tassos Spiliopoulos (easy for you to say that) at the Vortex Jazz Club, both new to me. The venue is quirky, above a cafe in one of the less salubrious corners of trendy Dalston and...More

The hugely talented Tom (sax), Alexandra (tpt) & Mark Ridout (gtr) performed some exceptional jazz tonight, ably supported by a great rhythm section. Loved the choice of music from Coltrane to Stevie Wonder! The Vortex was quieter than usual this Tuesday night, surprisingly so given...More
