The Cartoon Museum is a small museum which shows a selection of original cartoon and comic art, and a very small amount of animation, mostly by British artists, from the 1750s to the present day. There are three galleries including one showing a changing temporary exhibition showing about 230 works which are densely hung. Please note the museum is totally self-funded, receiving NO money from government or local government. To enable as many people as possible to visit, reductions are available for students, concessions and it's totally free to under-18s, Art Fund members and Friends of the Museum. We are closed on Mondays but OPen BANK HOLIDAY MONDAYS. Closed over Christmas/New Year.

Run without any public funds support, enthusiasts (and they are chirpy happy people ) operate this small museum. By far the best bit is the historical bit with excellent write ups on Hogarth onwards, and it was well presented and very interesting. It may just be a personal interest thing but the rest is just not my taste. If you... More

As part of our family day out in London during the half term we decided to visit The Cartoon Museum, now i'll hold my hands up and say that I've been a long standing fan of the comic 2000ad (featuring Judge Dredd) right from the very start (1977) and this was the primary reason for our visit! For just £7... More

If you are going to the British Museum for serious Classical Culture then don't miss the nearby Cartoon Museum for Popular Culture and amusement. Only a five minutes walk away southwards after the arduousness of a half day feast of world treasures at the BM, you can enjoy, in less than an hour's visit, the humour of Britain. I believe... Excellent exhibition at this cute museum. We go there regularly but felt this the best special exhibition. Made me laugh out loud!

I was at the museum to accompany my child who was taking part in a workshop there (which he really enjoyed, incidentally!) It was small but packed with cartoons of historical interest as well as some more recognisable ones. However I wouldn't say it was a museum for children. I'm sure that someone with a real interest in the history... More

We went in November when the exhibition was Pictures From Punch. The museum is small but interesting, although not for small children as it really is a cartoon museum and not a collection of modern cartoons. Low cost and worth a visit.

There are plenty of big-business attractions designed to milk tourists. This is certainly not one of them. As someone who enjoys illustration, this has clearly been put together by people who care about the subject. The exhibits are very nice to look at (it was difficult to tear myself away from some Brian Bolland pencils) and are well annotated. Even... More

Some very interesting cartoons you can find at this museum. Some thoughts were very interesting and impressive. Something I could not relate why they are in this museum but overall a great place to refresh your mind and smile as you walk out. It's one time visit

We're glad you found your visit interesting and that some of the cartoons made you smile. If you come again you will see different things as we change all the displays, both temporary exhibitions and our main galleries, every few months. Many of our visitors come back on a regular basis. More

their collection covers a wide range of cartoon styles and although small it is well worth a visit, we enjoyed walking round reminiscing over many of the cartoons remembered from childhood, the staff were attentive and our daughter did a quiz sheet which led her round the exhibits looking for clues she really enjoyed it. You can take time out... More

We're so pleased your family connected with the variety of things on show and that your daughter got some much out of the trail. Yes, our volunteers are committed and enthusiastic and we are glad they enhanced your visit. We hope you'll come again. More

A lovely little museum with many wonderful pieces, my favourites being the satirical sketches found in the British press. If you're thinking you'll find Bugs Bunny or X-Men, you're in the wrong place. The gift shop is very good, again with lots of wonderful things, ranging from graphic novels and calendars to posters and cards.

Bloomsbury
Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
