This one of the "magnificent seven" cemeteries created in the Victorian 19th century (opened in 1840) is operated by The Royal Parks and is admission free. Similar to others we had visited, parts are overgrown with creepers and "weeds", but this adds to the atmosphere...More

This is intriguingly interesting. Many WW1 and WW2 people are buried here. Read many plaques and monuments as they had very interesting information and interesting detail.

Very pretty cemetery (one of the great seven in London). Well maintained, the place has a very relaxing atmosphere - long paths, impressive tumbstones and green spaces. Ideal to cross from North to South so that the visitor finishes in the main arena.

Huge old cemetery near the centre of London right next to Chelsea Football Ground. If you get the rail to West Brompton you can enter in the north and wander down and exit at the South onto the Fulham Road. It could take you a...More

I went during the week at the end of July, a number of Royal Park staff were strimming, also the front entrance is being worked on, so to the Chapel, so the cemetery was hardly an oasis of peace. In fact it is currently a...More

I found this place fascinating to wander around. We were lucky enough to have time for a second visit when the catacombs were open for tours. Our guide was very informative and it was great to have this insight into English history.

We went for a walk through this beautiful cemetery since was very close to our hotel. I love reading the tombstones, memorial quotes and epitaphs... everything I would have imagined in a London cemetery!! Perfect for walks

South Kensington
With its ivied mews, row upon row of Poppins-esque
white washed mansions, and placid garden squares, it's
easy to see the charms of South Kensington. And with
superb access to Hyde Park, Holland Park and
Kensington Gardens, as well as the largely
child-friendly and mostly free Museum Quarter (not to
mention more major attractions like Royal Albert Hall)
such charms are easy to make the most of. As welcoming

There is no fee to pay to walk around the cemetery. It is unusual in that it is both a place for burials and a public park.

Hi Nancy As H19PPO points out Highgate is 45 mins away whereas Brompton is only 20 mins. You would need to spend a day at Highgate to see most of it including the West Side - guided tours are available.and then refresh at... More
