Somewhat of an oddity in the city, partially because it is so inauspicious. In other cities of the world this might have a much more prominent position, but in overloaded London a lot of people don't even know that it exists. As it is in...More

Situated on the Victoria Embankment wall fronting the River Thames, close to the Golden Jubilee Bridges, it is a genuine Egyptian artefact dating from about 1450 BC and coming from Luxor. It was gifted to London in 1877. In reality, it has nothing to do...More

Having stumbled upon this monument it was in good shape but nothing much to look at, I'm certainly glad I didn't go out of my way to see it

I've seen this many times and every time it makes me wonder at the ancients. The column itself is inscribed by ancient hands and the Sphinx guarding its base add to the sense of grandeur.

This is on my walk home from work and every day I can't help but stop and look. The inscriptions under one of the sphinxes explains that the holes in the base of the obelisk and one of the sphinxes was caused by German bombers...More

One of the more unusual monuments amongst many in London. Located on the banks of the Thames it's worth taking a walk to see the needle. Amazing piece of history flanked by two sphinxes. Free and accessible so you can get up and close. Plenty...More
