We made this our one stop on our 5 hour layover in London. My husband loves guitars, and this was literally all he wanted to see. Well, he wanted to see Wunjo guitars, but was surprised that he got an entire "guitar row". We got to go in to each little shop for only a few minutes, but everyone was nice. I saw a number of guitars that are not usually seen in American stores. My husband said that if we ever go back to London that he wants a full 8 hours to spend on the street.

Regent Sounds on Denmark Street is a must visit if you’re a guitar lover - bought a new guitar there for my birthday. The staff where extremely helpful and let me try out whatever I wanted without seeming like it was hassle or an annoyance which vibe you can sometimes be greeted with in commercial guitar shops! Mainly/ if not all electric guitars in the store but also a great selection of guitar pedals.

Whenever I travel to a city I always like to check out music stores. As a musician I'm always looking for something to add to my collection. The street is similar to 48th Street in NYC where all the music stores are located. Although these days it seems that Sam Ash has bought most of that street; but I digress. Anyway, if you're a musician you'll no doubt have a good time whether you're at Chris Bryant's, Rockers, Regent Sound Studios, or Wunjo Guitars.

I don't know about you, but as I New York musician I spent entire days haunting the shops on 48th Street, which sadly doesn't exist anymore. London musicians are lucky because they still have their row of shops on Denmark Street. There were of course the usual Fenders, Gibsons, etc. that I can get at home. What I was looking for was new and exotic instruments I hadn't seen before. As a bassist the Wunjo Bass Centre was Heaven! People in the shops were uniformly cool to this visiting foreigner. A must-see for musicians.

If you play guitar, go to Denmark Street. Every shop is a guitar shop apart from the saxaphone shop. There are accoutic guitar shops, electric guitar shops, base guitar shops and I think there is a drum shop. If you have a non-musical partner, show them the Foyles Bookshop at the end of the street and agree to meet up there for a coffee in about an hour or two's time.

Visited Denmark Street with my 15-year old guitar-playing son. He had the choice between this and the Tower of London. It was a no-brainer for him, and he likes history. There are a number of excellent stores selling all manner of instruments. Folks we encountered seemed very welcoming and encouraged him to try out the electric guitars. We were there a couple hours and could have stayed longer. Nice walk back to our hotel in Westminster. Denmark Street is not very long, but there is a lot packed in there. Some of the stores are former recording studios where groups such as the Stones Kinks, and David Bowie recorded.

Who remarked that in Paris the grands boulevards reign supreme but the back streets disappoint whereas in London the main thoroughfares disappoint yet the back streets are often magnificent? Denmark Street proved the correctness of this observation. Whereas New Oxford Street, Charing Cross Road and the eastern end of Oxford Street underwhelm, Denmark Street intrigues with the best collection of specialist guitar shops in the capital as well as some of the meanest restaurants, including one of the first branches of Flat Iron and Thai barbecue specialist Smoking Goat although the latter has recently closed to make way for a Crossrail development.

I've spent most of my wages in Denmark St over the years. If you're into music then you have to visit. If you can't find what you want musically here then it probably hasn't been made yet. The developers are doing what they do worse and throwing up flats all over the area so it won't be long until the whole area is just a memory.

I recently visited with a friend and we are both avid guitar players and collectors. Although the street is only small, there is a wide selection of the standard Gibson and Fenders, along with some strange and unusual vintage guitars. More modern guitars are also covered by some of the stores
Absolutely worth visiting if you have any interest in guitar or bass instruments. I would especially recommend Wunjo guitars and No.Tom who are the most welcoming guitar shops I have ever visited. Wunjo greeted us and told us to pick up and plug in whatever we wanted. No.Tom let me play a £3.5k '59 Les Paul reissue without any hesitation or sales pressure.
The only shop we didn't enjoy was Macari's. They had a wall of amazing Gibson guitars but didn't even greet us or ask for assistance. We visited both of their stores and neither were helpful. This is a shame because I am genuinely looking to spend considerable money on a new Gibson and they have the best selection! I would rather hand my cash over to the other guys. Don't let this stop you visiting though. Probably good idea to leave your credit card at home to prevent any GAS related purchases.
