St Martin-in-the-Fields is a landmark. Its fine Georgian architecture and prominent location place it at the heart of the nation. Its work has valued historic tradition, but St Martin’s has always been innovative in response to changing needs. From London’s first free lending library to the first religious broadcast, St Martin’s has broken new ground in defining what it means to be a church. Solidifying its position for years to come, St Martin's has an award-winning cafe, puts on concerts with London's best musicians, and hosts fantastic events in its unique subterranean spaces. Free lunchtime concerts take place every Monday, Tuesday and Friday, a fantastic way to hear both established and emerging stars of the classical scene. As well as the fantastic food on offer in the Cafe in the Crypt, during the summer months St Martin's opens the Cafe in the Courtyard, offering a host of al fresco delights.

Yesterday I went to a free concert at this church (Jooyoung Kim - pianist). I'm not a follower of classical music but felt I should get out of my comfort zone. So glad that I did. It lasted around an hour, the church was packed...More

I have very fond memories of St Martins in The Fields. I started the first youth club in the basement rooms by the Crypt in the 1959's I named it The Five Farthings Club. I was later a Sunday school teacher, Rev. Austin Williams was...More

We visited this elegant church next to Trafalgar Square for a free lunch-time concert (suggested donation 3,5 £). The church is very active in many ways. It is highly recommendable to attend one of the several hundred concerts taking place every year. Do not miss...More

St. Martin is my venue of choice for outstanding music, especially the popular lunch-hour events. Took in two stellar piano recitals over three weeks in June. One performance had the audience on its feet shouting bravos. A donation of 3.50 pounds is suggested. A perfect...More

Sure, the Cafe in the Crypt is fun, but the church itself is a wonderful venue. My husband and I went to the Mozart Masterpieces by Candlelight concert. I don't really have enough superlatives for this concert. The abilities of the Locrian Ensemble were impressive;...More

We had a wonderful evening watching Arab-Belgian jazz ensemble 'Hijaz' in this beautiful setting with wonderful acoustics. Staff are helpful, and there is a downstairs cafe with artwork on display sometimes. Would visit it again.

We saw the candle light concert of Vivaldi's the Four Seasons. What a wonderful experience. Truly something you need to do with your spouse. Romantic, cultural, and peaceful. Check out eh evening concerts the put on in the evenings.

Attended the choral series of masterworks performed with organ. Newest choir at Smif was very good. Many works performed at a very high level with skill and exquisite musicianship. Moving and effective. Disappointed with the Hallelujah Chorus, however. Such a familiar piece to most vocalists,...More

Convenient to busy Trafalgar Square and the National Art Gallery and Portrait Gallery, St.Martin offers a calming interlude. The annex and basement hold interesting little displays. But the wonder is to be found in musical performances. There are performances most evenings at a modest cost,...More

Iconic church in the herat of London, situated near to Trafalgar Square, famed for its free music...Unfortunately, none playing when we were visiting, so just had a look around instead. Amazing window at the far end of the church..Great food served in the crypt.
