was invited to attend a little do here by a company we utilise as a celebration. It is very difficult to find some where with the OOWW factor, well this definitely has it. The presence and the feel of the surrounds are amazing, the staff float around without being scene and answer every request and the food is superb. If... More

Hidden away in Ely Place is this beautiful Catholic Church. It is almost always open. It has lovely modern stained glass and statues of Catholic Martyrs. It has an a unique atmosphere. It's a short walk to Smithfield where many of the Catholic and even more Protestant Martyrs were put to death when religion in the UK was violent and... More

The ancient church is perfect for mass with accompanying music -- much as it was intended when the building was constructed several hundred years ago. Likewise the stained glass, carved wooden details, and stonework harken to its long and storied past.

Like many we just came across the church while in the area looking at something else. A wedding was about to take place but we were allowed in. A choir clearly to sing at the wedding were practising. We passed under them and looked at the stain glass window behind the alter, what an atmosphere. We went in the crypt... More

I was at school at St Etheldreda's in the 1960/70s and took my First Holy Communion at the Church. The School was next door in the convent and tiny and run by nuns - it was a wonderful wonderful place to be. I didn't realise the Church still had a Latin Mass on a Sunday - I'm definitely heading for... More

Went on a weekday morning and felt really calmed by the hushed atmosphere. The entry to the sanctuary area is via quite an unusual route and the splendour of one of the largest stained glass windows suddenly hits.

This is a beautiful chapel and such a peaceful spot just a few steps from the hustle and bustle of Holburn. The chapel dates back to the 13th century and has been witness to a lot of history. Knowing what has happened there and about the people associated with it makes the visit much more interesting.

I had a map and I was checking out Ye Olde Mitre pub just close by waiting for it to open so thought I would seek out this wee church which was shown on the map. It is delightful. It is well worth a visit whether you are Catholic or not. So much history and character. Well worth a visit... More
