I loved this gallery. It's quite hidden away in the City so I'm not sure it's on most people's tourist trail but the art is absolutely superb. There are plenty of places to take a seat and spend some time if you wish, but it's not so large as to feel overwhelming. It hit one of my favourite periods of art, focussing on the Victorian era, so I guess it depends on your tastes a bit. There was also an exhibition of art about London which was a bit more hit and miss, but on the whole I think this is a wonderful gallery.

What a proper good find of a gem tucked away behind St Paul’s. Stumbled across this with 30mins before closing so didn’t get to see it all but what we did see was awesome. The Roman ruins in the basement literally and the Shakespeare documents a must see. Will be returning on our next trip to the big smoke to see the rest we missed. Staff were really friendly and the lady at the shop gave us a mini talk about the history. Beats many of the other free galleries in London hands down.

This free exhibit includes the remains of part of the Roman amphitheatre of London, a small exhibition on Sir Christopher Wren and another on Shakespeare, some London related paintings as well as the Art Gallery which shows a number of Victorian art pieces including some nice Pre-Raphaelite works. A good way to spend a quite hour. Note that you do not see the Guildhall itself.

In all honesty we popped in here to get some respite from the torrential rain. It was actually a really interesting place to visit for an hour or so and see some great Victorian/Edwardian art and some later pieces. In addition, the remains of the Roman amphitheatre were an unexpected and delightful surprise.

Treasures in gold and silver wire is such a fabulous exhibition. The intricacy of the embroidery is something to behold. On display are items spanning many centuries for example a coffin pall, Queen Mary’s Coronation dress, The Queen’s Coronation glove, a Yeoman of the Guard outfit, Garter robes, David Tennant’s costume for Hamlet, Darcy Bussell’s tutu. All magnificent. Thankfully this exhibition has been extended. In addition the Art Gallery is a gem with over 3000 paintings owned by The Corporation of London, a sample of which are on display. I was lucky enough to join a free tour in which the knowledgeable guide talked about some of the collection. The tour also included a visit to the ruins of the Roman amphitheatre discovered during the excavations during the 1990s. A wonderful visit

Went to the special exhibition of gold work. This was absolutely beautiful. The place was so quiet I was able to take my time and enjoy the sheer beauty and skill on display.The staff were lovely and I spoke to several other visitors so had a wonderful afternoon

I love coming across unsung little gems in London and this place is one of them. Lovely, unexpected paintings of Lady Jane Grey,a stunning Clytemnestra,a Constable and the Roman remains of an amphitheatre,beautifully lit and explained. Very welcoming lady in the small shop. A great visit.

The Guildhall offers free entry and you can make donations at the gift shop or by some of the exhibits. The highlight is definitely the history and ruins of the Roman Amphitheatre that was discovered here while they were building the Guildhall. Other highlights include the two story Gibraltar painting by John Singleton Copley, the Tower Bridge Exhibit, bust of then Prince Charles and a temporary exhibit on woodcutting and kaleidoscope inspired art by Anne Desmet. The Guildhall has a library that features the world's largest collection of books to a single city - London, large models of the city and a very nice washroom in the basement of the art gallery. This is an interesting spot to check out and you can save it for a rainy day and I would prioritize it for people interested in the Roman history of London or just London history in general. The Guildhall is close to St. Paul's and has a number of underground stations and bus stops nearby.

You descend one level to view artifacts in cases and read about the history of the site. Then you descend one more level to view the parts that have been exposed. It is something to be down there among the ruins. Well worth a visit.

We popped in to the Guildhall Art Gallery as there is direct access to the Roman Ampitheatre below. However, it was a great opportunity to take in a bit of art and culture at the same time. They bad a specific exhibition on whilst we were there, called 'Kaleidoscope/London' and, whilst the artwork certainly wasn't to my taste, there was a short video, playing on a loop, which showed how the artist, Anne Desmet, created the pieces and this gave me an entirely new perspective and appreciation for the art on display. It is a remarkable process! The gallery is very smart and has a very nice peaceful feel to it. The staff were all very pleasant too. I should like to return here one day, and would encourage anyone to stop by if you're in The City.
