Neighbourhood: Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighbourhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.

Price tagged food goods that match the brands they sell upstairs
This is definitely a case of paying over the odds to look at something pretty… the dessert counter always looks amazing…. The truth is they leave you deflated, the loaf cakes are stodgy, and heavy, the filling isn’t great, very sweet and again heavy… the little gimmicks like mini jammy dodger biscuit, mini bourbon, mini brownies also leave a lot to be desired…. The cupcakes are very sweet too, to be honest, everything I’ve tried has been overwhelming sweet and I love my desserts! The best thing is the cheesecakes, these are ok but when you factor in the cost of each item, it’s definitely not worth the money… you can hunt for the bargains, usually old stock that’s due to go past the sell by date but you’re just asking for bad stale food, unfortunately even at those prices I find selfridges expensive…. If you like the look of things then knock yourself out, if it’s quality you value then I’d suggest going elsewhere….

    Wonderful Experience
This is a not to be missed experience. Not your same old, same old department store. A collection of high end and unique products from hand painted chocolates to custom jewelry. The wonderful collection of restaurants is worth a visit alone

Personal Shopping for Denim with Camilla - Fantastic!!!
Personal Shopping with Camilla in the Denim Department - what an absolute treasure she is!! Highly recommend this service, she took time to understand what we needed, made plenty of time for my friend and me, and was organised for our arrival. We felt no pressure to buy, but with all the beautiful options presented obviously we did. Jeans are so hard to find the right fit and Camilla was patient and honest, clearly knowing the different brands. It would have been completely overwhelming without her help and I would have walked out of the store without anything. Both my friend and I walked away with three pairs of jeans and a stack of other clothes. Yes it is expensive, but worth it.

    Beautiful store dressed for Christmas.
I hadn’t visited Selfridges for a number of years so I was looking forward to my visit. The Christmas shop in the basement had so many lovely items to decorate your house. Lots of room to navigate your way around. The first floor is beautifully laid out. The designer rooms are very spacious and you feel at ease to browse each area. And don’t forget the make-up on the ground floor.

    Love it!
Loved it! Everything about it felt old school department store but very modern. Love the DJ going up the escalators. My 11 year old daughter was in heaven! Very pricey obviously but just so fab to walk through and look at all the bits and bobs. Had our first Yo Sushi visit instore and will def go to another one when we see it. Very busy but didnt feel cramped.

The food looks marvellous but very expensive.
As I was in the West End I thought I would pay a visit. It was jam packed.I had a look at the meat counter and pheasants were around £8.95 compared with my online suppliers of £6.50 a brace. Some appetising fish but the price was par 100g unlike local fishmongers who do it per kilo, which gives you a better idea of cost. Pomellos which are around £3 locally, were over £6 here.So I came away with nothing.

Amazing food hall but inattentive staff
I love the food hall! I love the patisseries and they are always so delicious! However, I bought 5 desserts and after I got home, about 2 hours later, only 4 were in the box. Quite annoying considering they are quite expensive, despite the missing item was the cheapest. For a high end department store you expect better and it wasn't even busy. Next time I will be more attentive and check my bag before leaving but that shouldn't be my job!

Complete surprise Jonathan on BDK your a star 🌟
I totally stopped shopping in Selfridges, simply because The customer services from their Staff had dropped so dramatically over the years. Their staff don’t seem to care for their customers and don’t seem to have the time or the knowledge as they use to. So I said to myself, I’m never going back. But then i wanted to buy a fragrance from BDK so I thought I will risk it. To my complete surprise as soon as i got to the fragrance counter I was served by a member of staff called Jonathan. What a complete star he was. He wasn’t only attentive he was funny. He had great product knowledge. Gave Customer service that I haven’t seen in years I couldn’t praise him enough, I could literally go on and on about how wonderful his service was it was literally what you would expect from a high-end store that you never get from any other Selfridges staff totally change my mind about shopping in Selfridge’s. if this is the way there Staffing is going then I will be back shopping as a regularly as I did in the past. Keep up the good work and I hope you treat this guy well because he will be headhunted in a matter of days. You just do not get that kind of service any more. Well done. Jonathan well done Selfridges.

    MORPHE HAS THE BEST STAFF
Ahhh! I had the best experience ever. I was coming straight from work and I was looking at so many different make up sections until I stumbled upon Morphe. The lovely Manish was working and he gave me the most caring experience, even as he was still attentive to others and doing 7 things at once! I was looking at a couple of products and he knew exactly what suited me instantly. He also tried a whole routine on my face, which has boosted my confidence with make up much more. By the end of it i bought everything he put on my face. As it was just the best! I was so so happy and fufilled. He made the experience go so smoothly. At the check out I also had an amazing discussion with Sinem, who also took some time to explain some things that i needed. 11 STARS OUT OF 10 for the entire experience! Please, if it’s possible, give these guys a bonus/ raise as they were so enthusiastic the entire time and immensely helpful. (Sorry this took so long as i came in a week ago)

Treated my best friend to an afternoon tea in Dolly's Cafe at Selfridges. We enjoyed every single moment !!! Fingers sandwiches, scones were fantastic and the cakes just simply amazing. We had to queue for maybe 10-15 minutes, but believe me was worth it. The staff did clear tables as soon as they became available and enabled the queue to filter quickly.
Top quality food, champagne and great customer service. Our waitress was so polite and helpful with cake choice, because we couldn't decide, then she was all the time checking on us if we enjoy and also what do we think about her recommendation. It was wonderful experience for us.

My partner and I visited Selfridges last month as a Birthday treat and after a few hours of shopping we decided to pop to the Champagne bar and I'm so glad we did!

Stefan, the Manager was absolutely brilliant. Upon arrival, the bar was full so he took our number and said he would text when a table was free, estimated time was 15 minutes but within 5 minutes we received a message.

From the moment we entered he was so accommodating and explained to us the bottle of French rose was actually new and so he couldn't give us any advice on the taste. So he let us try before buying and joined us with his own glass! He also gave me a complimentary oyster as it was my Birthday as I had always wanted to try one - it was delicious and our time at the bar was lovely and relaxing.

We will definitely be back, thank you so much Stefan for your hospitality, your kindness did not go unnoticed.

See you soon!

On this trip to London, we decided we wanted to have a closer look at Selfridges; not just for the shopping, but for the history of the building and the owner, Harry Gordon Selfridge. Mr. Selfridge was an American who revolutionized shopping in Great Britain. Harry Selfridge arrived in London from Chicago in 1906, with grand plans to open an extravagant department store where “everyone was welcome.” His store was designed by Daniel Burnham, who also created the Marshall Field's main store in Chicago.

The main store on Oxford Street is the second largest store in London after Harrods. In spite of being #2 behind Harrods, Selfridges was opened in 1909 and is the largest shop on Oxford Street with 650,000 feet of retail space. Selfridges was one of the first shops in Britain to introduce window dressing as a way of enticing customers into the store. When we arrived, the sunlight was perfect on the front of the building to properly photograph the distinctive polychrome sculpture above the Oxford Street entrance, which is the work of British sculptor Gilbert Bayes. We were pleased to see the old elevators still in use. We spent about an hour there, walking around and admiring all the beautiful displays. It is truly a “smashing” place to shop! The closest Tube station is Bond Street.

Absolutely disgusting service, placed an order for three tablets costing nearly £900 only to have my order cancelled the following morning stating I hadn't passed security checks and by pure coincidence the price of each tablet had gone up from £297 to £349. On speaking to a member of customer service they informed me it was not actually anything to do with a security check and that it was Samsung that had cancelled the order and not Selfridges and that they would contact Samsung to find out why and get back to me. Apparently the items are shipped straight from Samsung and they can cancel your order even though your order is placed with Selfridges which is not on. No one got back to me so after 24 hours I contacted customer services again and spoke to a different member off staff to be told a completely different story and that the order was cancelled because it hadn't passed the security check but no actual reason was given and that what her colleague had told me previously was wrong, so basically I've been ignored and lied to and they wont honor the original price. What a circus and I'm sorry I didn't see all the negative reviews before I placed an order with these clowns, the staff at Chicken Cottage have better customer service skills so vote with your wallets and buy elsewhere because the bottom line is that they simply do not care, you have been warned.

I visited Selfridges today & after spending quite a bit of money decided to eat at the Ellen cafe on floor 4, we were brought to our table & decided what to eat. A couple were also taken to their table next to us, we said to the waitress TWICE, we were ready to order, she then went to the table next to us who arrived after us & took their order!!!! We waited 15-20 mins!!!!! We walked out! Went to Dolly’s cafe on LG & served within 2 minutes & delicious. Selfridges store itself was absolutely fine!!

I have visited Selfridges as a store since 1980, and have nothing but the highest regard for the Oxford Street store. However, as it was lockdown, and I needed an item urgently for an unexpected reason, I ordered online from Selfridges, as I believed they were a reputable store. However, despite paying the large surcharge for a named day delivery, the item did not get delivered. Customer service were reluctant to help, but eventually did say they would reschedule the delivery for the next morning as I was leaving my rental property, and refund me the named day delivery surcharge. They refunded the the named delivery charge but the item was still not delivered at the rescheduled time. Customer service were reluctant to help and I explained that as it would now be impossible for me to receive the item, could they please cancel the order and refund me. To cut a long story short, to date, they have not refunded me. The item I ordered cost £140! They say they cannot refund me until the item is returned to them!?!??!!? How am I going to return an item I have never received and have no way of even tracing as I am no longer in the UK? The order should have been cancelled and the item recalled from the courier in any case?? Their reply stating they would not be able to refund me without having the item was just received. The order was cancelled by me before I left the UK, on the 27th of January, nearly 4 weeks ago! Judging from the other reviews, I am guessing I am not just unlucky in this case. Please think twice before ordering from Selfridges online. I know I will not be doing so again.

Selfridges “the wonder room” offers extremely appalling service when it comes to leaving your watch with them. You truly experience “wonder”-ing if you’re ever going to get your watch back from them!

On the 18th of September 2022 I dropped a watch worth £2000 for a change of battery with their “wonder room”, the lady in store said it will be sent to Switzerland to change battery and it will takes 1 month, so we decided to go forward with the battery change regardless the long wait.

Now new year 2023 have passed and yet we have not been contacted by Selfridges to return of the watch, 5 months passed!

Last month (January 2023) we walked into the store to inquire of the watch, a male consultant said it has been sent to Switzerland, so we continued to wait and now it’s February 2023 still no news whatsoever from selfridges concerning the watch.

If the battery has been changed the time wasted 5 month long, my watch would have only left with 50% of the battery life now. If I had made a trip to Switzerland I would have made many round trips and back!

On 10th February 2023 drop them an email to locate the watch, both Kimberley and Natalie came back both with the same kind of email - (it’s like copy and paste written statement) saying “unfortunately the images supplied are not satisfactory evidence…” selfridges staffs do not even have the slightest courtesy to apologies for the long wait. A lesson learnt never leave any watch or valuable with selfridges! Never again!

Selfridges is scamming customers beware, bought some Bose headphones worth over £300, they were faulty they had an issue which they acknowledged and they are refusing to refund me it’s unbelievable.

Selfridges don’t bother responding with your FAO social automated reply I’ve contacted you several times and no reply.

They never reply, what they are doing is illegal, I’ve read other reviews of them refusing refunds for faulty items.

I’ll always go with the manufacturer from now on (who also said the headphones were faulty)

Not even a star needs to be given to…
Not even a star needs to be given to this department store I have been shopping here for many years but after yesterday I will not use this department store ever again.

After working soo hard within NHS as dental professional I got a discount code to use and paid for my goods at Selfridges online they have now stopped the delivery because of the code stating the nondiscount is premited despite the discount was applied at check-out and not only did they took my money but the best part is that I have to wait 3-5 working days to get my money refunded which has already left my bank account.
Selfridges do not offer any form nhs discount parently which is huge let down spoken to many customer care advisors for some help they all blamed 3rd party no one offered to reimbursement or help me to get this resolved just apologies a free delivery which I get anyway hence I live in UK.
Thank you Selfridges for support NHS staff plus.Thank you for ruining Christmas for me and my family I will not return back to your department store ever not only did you not try to keep a loyal customer happy you made it look like I was at fault . The best part I have to wait for the pending transaction to reverse back so I can have my funds back into my account which is furthermore delay and also if the discount code don't work why do selfridges continue with the payment process and get longer to get my money back and no voucher was send via email which is my own voucher that I used on top of my payment no one cares about you and how this has effected me and family by the time my money comes back will be Thursday and I won't have time to purchase all the Christmas present .
Thank you Selfridges for your excellent customer care service I shall never consider speaking to any of your service members you all say falsified information please avoid this store at all time .
Go John Lewis or Harrods or Harvey Nicholas the service is excellent.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

It pains me to say this because I have been a rgular customer here for decades! At times dropping thousands on single transactions, other times dropping in just to sample food or to browse, especially at Christmastime. It's just not the same anymore. The Christmas hall (2019) was cold and without feeling. As other reviews and websites repeatedly point out, they have zero customer service, and that is not the ethos on which their brand was built. I used to call it my Spiritual Home where nowadays, hell is a closer description.
On the plus side, there are some lovely individual employees, especially at the bottom end, cashiers just wanting to help, but the higher you go, the uglier it gets. I would even say the buyers don't have the same approachable flair they once had, and it shows in the merchandise. I am not talking about ground floor concessions; it's the upper floors, go higher, like a symbol of their inability to be in touch with real people and customers; a connection to the very elements of the business that sustains them. What a shame.
They'll always have a foreign customer base but those with more shopping savvy should and will be moving their money back to other more customer friendly establishments, and there are many, See Harrods and Harvey Nichols, even John Lewis and Debenhams.
It's time for Selfridges to have a serious makeover, not on the external, but on the internal. Please get rid of the plastic people standing in roles where you need real humans. Is it possible to bring back some genuine spirit to the place?
