Address
Neighbourhood: St. James's
Perennially fashionable since the days of Henry VIII, the aristocratic “Clubland” of St James's is a premier destination for high end craft and bespoke design. Here you’ll lose count of the Royal Warrants (which indicate that the Royal Family patronizes the establishment) seen in shop front windows, even during a short stroll to bordering Green Park or St James’s Park. With the brightly lit and constantly buzzing junction of Piccadilly Circus at its northeast corner and none of Central London too far away, this is an surprisingly central and accessible part of town, especially given its prosperous demeanor.

The experience was amazing. Seeing the interior structure of St. Martins as you access the brass rubbing area in the basement is more than worth the trip to the church. The staff where welcoming and helpful and had a range of projects and prises to cover everyone’s pocket. A wonderful way to spend an hour after or before walking around Trafalgar Square

Create Your Own Masterpiece
Nov. 2018 • Couples
It’s so easy and so much fun. Select a brass. Get instructions from the employees working near the cash register. Then spend at least an hour rubbing your very own masterpiece.

This was my first time rubbing brass. The Brass Rubbing Staff (they should have an official title) were very helpful. And you can purchase a tube to safely carry your masterpiece home. It’s the perfect souvenir!

Unique and worthwhile antidote to the madding crowd
Aug. 2018 • Family
I remember doing brass rubbings in Westminster Abbey many years ago, when it was still possible. This is an excellent substitute that provides people of all ages an opportunity to capture a piece of the medieval world and take it home rolled up in a cardboard tube. The availability of a first rate cafe in the crypt and free musical events in the church above just add to the enjoyment. The center is only steps from Nelson's Pillar and the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square and makes a nice counterpoint to those experiences. The young teens in our party and one of the seniors spent a fine 45 minutes on Celtic bronzes that were about 2 feet by 2 feet. Big ones up to about 6 feet by 4 feet are also available as well as intermediate sizes. The tone of the final product may be rendered in gold, silver, copper or pewter variants according to the rubbing agent that is chosen. I think gold may work best for most images. The rubbing technique is basically (1) outline the image periphery; (2) using short horizontal strokes rub the entire image; and (3) then employ short vertical strokes over the horizontal ones. A great place with helpful staff.

Wow what a great find... hidden in a gem of a place...I walked by 3 times... the staff couldnt have been any nicer... but never having done this before I must say the instructions were brief and you were thrown into the pool.... fortunately I swam ok and slowly started to figure this creative art out... with that said I chose the small "free" project you get with the London pass... thankfully for not even half way through my fatigue was setting in ;) another girl whom I didn't know approached me and said what a nice job I was doing and that she wished she had chosen a smaller one that she was quite tired;) I highly recommend it especially if you have London pass... its FREE;) enjoy!!!

30 minutes activity

Interesting activity like when a coin covered with paper and shading the dimples. Simply and inetersting with children. With London Pass it is free to 4,5 pounds. You can choose from several samples. Receptionist case it when you finished, it is free of charge. I asked the receptionist what is the story of bras rubbing - unfortunately she did not know, just gave me a little information about it.

Take home a unique souvenir of your time in London
May 2018 • Couples
Located in the basement of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Church, this offers the ability to get a unique souvenir of your time in London. All sorts of art available for rubbing - persons and designs. The staff will give you a quick primer on how to do the rubbing and help you select a good color for your artwork. Not very expensive and you get a break from the usual tourist activities.

Find solace in the heart of London
Apr. 2018 • Family
We chose to do this activity just to fill some time and find a quiet place to sit with the kids before dinner. There are about 90 designs to choose from in a wide range of sizes. You can take as long or as short an amount of time as you like to complete your design. It was a fun, alternative and relaxing thing to do. Unfortunately the staff were not particularly friendly or helpful but we managed. At only £20 in total for our 3 designs it was well worth it.

Could have spent hours

I had planned to visit here from Australia before I left and I’m so glad we did. A lovely respite from busy London, we did three rubbings and had a drink and a bite to eat. All the staff were fantastic and we found taking some time to focus on something crafty to be very relaxing.

A unique experience!!
Nov. 2017 • Couples
My parents have brass rubbings from 50 years ago, back when you could actually rub authentic church floor carvings. I was always fascinated by them and disappointed that I would never get to do it. I found this place by accident and was thrilled to be able to try it out. Now I have a very unique memento of my visit and a great conversation piece to show my class. This would be a fantastic family activity, especially if you need a place to escape a rainy day. It's also very affordable. Bonus: the church above is nothing too special but you might get lucky and catch their youth choir practicing in the evenings. They were fantastic.
