About
Stationers' Hall is a Grade I listed building, close to St Paul's Cathedral. It is one of the few ancient Livery Halls remaining in the City of London. Completed in 1673 after the Great Fire of London, the Hall's suite of magnificent, inter-linking rooms as well as the secluded garden makes it one of the most sought after venues in the City for Corporate events and Private functions.

Neighbourhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

A 5-Star experience. We were greeted like distinguished guests - given a souvenir admissions card on arrival, and split into 2 groups of 15. Each party was led by a wonderful guide, with a more than capable assistant to help, who brought the great history of the Stationers and their fabulous Hall to life. Tour was rounded off with coffee and tea.

After 40+ years (and 4 years retired) as a stationer, I finally made my pilgrimage to Stationers' Hall - Home of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers.

What a fantastic morning being guided through this wonderful building and getting a detailed potted history of my industry and its huge influence on our world today . . .

So, if you've a passing interest in anything stationery, history of England and the origins of the modern printed and published word, book a tour . . . Your grey matter will be fully stimulated within the walls of this splendid venue!

Having such a knowledgeable and entertaining guide, as Ian Fagelson, brought to life the events and people, including Shakespeare, who had been involved with this beautiful and historic building,

Ian offers other tours and having been on two of them, I would highly recommend him as a guide - all the sites are so interesting

Stationers’ Hall is in Ave Maria Lane near Ludgate Hill and is the one of the Worshipful Company of Stationers formed in 1403 but which added ‘newspaper makers’ to its name in 1937. On the site of the present hall was the former Abergavenny House purchased by the Stationers in 1606 for £3,500 but destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666. The current building and hall date from 1670. The hall was remodelled in 1800 by the architect Robert Mylne and designated a Grade I listed building in 1950. Its hall hosts the Shrine Media Awards given to students designing the best magazines and websites.

Stationers' Hall is the seat of the Stationers Company, one of the historic Livery Companies of the City of London.
The buildings are in a small hidden alley close to St Paul and like many historic buildings in the City, they were mostly built in the XVII century after the Great Fire.
Wood paneling, portraits of liverymen, coats of honour, beautiful stained glass windows, and the splendid hall itself make it a beautiful and interesting building.
Visit is limited as the buildings are sill in use (I did visit on Open House weekend) but the architecture can be admired from the outside.
