The area
Neighbourhood: Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighbourhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
How to get there
  • Marble Arch • 5 min walk
  • Baker St • 9 min walk

Location where legends of rock snd roll lived.

The flats surrounding the square were home to many famous folks.

Jimmy Hendrix, Ringo Star and John Lennon lived in this area making it home to some great rock and roll legends of our time. Basement flat number 34.

Well worth the time and effort to visit and explore.

34 Montagu is on Montagu Square, This house is where Jimi Hendrix wrote a Wind Cries Mary while living here. Ringo Starr also rented and lived here. Paul McCartney wrote some Demo songs at this location and most famous as where John and Yoko Lennon photographed the Two Virgins cover here, This is also where John was arrested for possession of drugs. This is a must see if a Hendrix, Beatles or Lennon fan

This is one of London's Georgian squares, built between 1810 and 1815 as terraced houses for the wealthy and a gated garden in the centre.
It's in Marylebone, a little north of the Marble Arch and is typical of other squares of the same period.
It won't be on the agenda for most tourists and my reason for taking someone there was to have a look at the exterior of number 24. The ground-and-basement-floor flat (apartment) at this address has interesting 'Beatles' links because it was leased by the group's drummer Ringo Starr in the mid to late 1960s, being not too far from the Abbey Road recording studios. There is a 'blue plaque' to John Lennon, who resided here for several months in 1968 early in his relationship with Yoko Ono. Jimi Hendrix also lived there for a short time.
The author Anthony Trollope lived at number 39 from 1873.
