Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

What was once a neighborhood with a very bad reputation is today one of the most attractive, lively and colorful neighborhoods in London. It is very easy to access since the Victoria metro line has a stop in the heart of the neighborhood. The most interesting thing are the markets, both open-air and covered. You can enjoy Brixton Market from Monday to Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., although Wednesday usually ends at 3:00 p.m. The businesses in the shopping arcades usually open at 10 in the morning and close at dusk. Along Brixton Road there are stalls selling second-hand clothes, trinkets, music, fruit and vegetables, while on Electric Avenue we can find Caribbean fish, specialized food or meat. The craft area is located in the market on the other side of the metro station. If you have time, you have to visit it.

Walking through the market I was agog at the quantity of fresh fish, and decided to take one home with me. Having chosen a red snapper off the display it was cleaned for me, handed to me in a bag and I was then told it was ÂŁ12. When I suggested that that was a lot I was let off the ÂŁ2. Last time I ever do that: how on earth do they sell all that fish if that's how much it costs!? It's back to Tesco's seabass in a bag I'm afraid.

It is obvious that this market is for the locals, as there were many grocery stalls; however, the meat and fish did not look fresh and smelled even worse. The graffiti made this area look run-down. Not very lively compared to other London markets.

Electric Avenue is a bit depressing and run down, there's a tiny and popular branch of Greggs, lots of poundshops with household tat piled high and a few decent food shops selling fresh fish, meat and veg. The only bit I really like is the fabric shop on the corner which is much bigger inside than it looks on the outside - the huge back room of the shop used to be a games arcade and if you can find some floor space between the endless rolls of interesting fabric, it has a Sonic the Hedgehog carpet!

This is a pedestrianised road that runs behind Brixton station. It has a varied selection of shops plus market stalls in the middle of the street selling fish, fruit and vegetables as well as clothes and household items. Try Brixton Village as well which is more upmarket.

An iconic street now rather depressing. Market stalls follow the curve of the buildings, selling not very inspiring goods. If you look up above the shop fronts, the quite impressive architecture gives an indication of the grandeur and status the place probably once had. Unfortunately the shops now below house something much shabbier.

The Electric Avenue is located just 2 minutes' walk away from the Brixton Tube Station. Having heard about its former grandeur in late 19th Century when this stretch of street became the first market street to be electrically lit one will expect to see at least a modest street with a neat row of shops lining it. But quite contrary to one's expectations, it has been reduced to a crowded and smelly stretch of street selling meats fish and vegetables with sorry looking people chattering raucously on the street. The street hardly does any justice to Eddy Grant's 1982 hit by the same name which perhaps made it famous the world over!
