The Cow has gone up and down and is now really up. Go for anything - oysters, shrimps, amazing fish stew, specials - fish always good - and the Malbec red or Chablis white- either at the restaurant upstairs or near the bar. It looks like an old Irish pub but this is an illusion, because it's recent. The art... More

I'd eaten here years ago but it felt this time the world had passed it by. As in improved enormously. Bar okish downstairs, nothing unusual but food was a little ordinary and it left like there were now so many better places - places that might have been inspired by the Cow, but which I'd much rather go to.

Enjoyed this little local pub while staying in Notting Hill. Service was excellent, food was pretty standard pub fare but delicious. The ambience was perfect for a cozy night out. Will be back!

An old friend recommended we meet here and it was just perfect. Really comfortable surroundings, friendly professional staff and a great mixed crowd of local patrons. I was unaware when I entered that they had such good seafood, but I kept seeing platters of cold and hot dishes go by so I gave in and ordered some myself - good... More

The food is delicious there, specially the pasta, the seafood and their award-winning fish-stew! The team is very friendly and impressively professional. To me, this is probably the best pub in town and they serve really nice beers.

While I was living in London I use to come here with my boyfriend at least 1 time per week. They have amazing fresh seafood plus great ambience!

6 of us ate here in the upstairs dining room 2 nights ago and my wife and I were deeply unimpressed both by the food and the 'dining room' which was gloomy, with unmatched tables (we had to ask for ours to be wiped clean) and bar stools for most of the seats - not what you want for a... More

Dear Mr. R I'm so sorry you had a less than awe inspiring experience. You caught us on the hop, you are right about the befuddlement of the Dining Room at this time, We were just about to embark on intense refurbishment programme, which has now been completed, we have put down a new floor, bought new tables and chairs,... We went here with our family and enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. Great service and hospitality from the staff made the whole thing a wonderful experience.

Tom Conran, please can you ask your chef to de-spice the fish stew! I've been a regular at The Cow and have enjoyed many dishes of fish stew and rouille over the years but last night it blew my head off, I couldn't finish it. The waitress explained it was a bouillabaisse and is meant to be spicy. Not true... More

Attended with a friend. Absolutely discraceful service by the blond waitress with a cold sore on her upper lip. She put utensils down for my fish stew and then lied saying she did not hear my order. Very childish behaviour. Other staff were mortified by her behavoiur. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME GO SOME WHERE ELSE. Dr MC

Sorry, I know that folk can a little bit bewildered and confused at this time of year, but as the Owner of The Cow I feel must defend the honour of our waitress Elena, who is very efficient, lovely and beautiful young lady. She is surely one of the best most popular members of staff we have had in the... More

Staying in Notting Hill

Neighbourhood Profile
Notting Hill
As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighbourhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last. Travelers looking to forage for antiques should be sure to visit the Portobello Road Market on Saturdays, the largest antiques market in the United Kingdom.
