Returning to London, after a lovely time on the glacier express in Switzerland, one of the cleanest safest places ever.
We only stayed in Kings Cross
because we were to return to Kent the following so it was more convenient. After having a lovely dinner at our favourite restaurant in Chinatown, we were on our way back to our hotel when we were bashed into by a huge homeless man almost knocking my wife to the ground ground not sure what was happening. He scuttle off by the time I tried to take my phone out and get a picture of him he’s gone, and yet we were surrounded by other homeless people offering to get him to get away from the crown, but one man in particular followers saying I’ll kill him I’ll kill him for you. We felt this was possibly a set up and a way of intimidating us into paying money to avoid further altercation. My advices stay away from Kings Cross at night. In particular if you have children it may look very beautiful during the day with people, laughing and enjoying the sunshine and all that is on offer but at night this area takes on its usual historic sinister atmosphere. The streets are littered with gas bottles, alcohol bottles and cans. My wife and I are not young people, and any altercation with anybody for any reason is always upsetting.

The most ridiculous railway station ever!! All I want to do is goto to Stevenage! Why don’t you just go from the same area, instead you have king X St Pancras and King’s Cross. Platform 1-8 or platform B. Totally totally confusing unless you use it every day. Stupid system, typical Britain though, a complete mess like everything.

King's Cross is a major London Underground and railway station.
Inside many shops, places to eat and, above all, platform 9 and 3/4 for trains leaving for Hogwarts!!!!!
Always crowded, worth a visit.

The Kings Cross area of London has a well deserved bad reputation. In the area you have prostitutes, drug dealers, junkies and beggars. During the day the area is not so bad with a few things in the area to do HOWEVER I would recommend caution, especially in the evening and KNOW where you are going. You have London Underground and three railway stations in the area (kings cross, St. Pancras and Thameslink). Exercise a little common sense, if you do have to ask for directions, ask someone who works in a store or at one of the train stations.....try not to ask people in the street because there is a risk you could get unlucky.
The upside is it is a good area to get around London and the tube station there is one of the biggest with 6 lines running through. There is also the extensive bus network, with buses running to most places in London including the 91 which runs to Trafalgar Square where you can then get a bus to ANYWHERE in London (that route is 24/7).
You also have Camley Street Natural Park which is located just off Pancras Road about a 5 minute walk from St Pancras Station. In York Way is the Courtyard Theatre and the area is good for low cost, brand hotels (Travel Inn, Travel Lodge, Holiday Inn etc...)
All I will say is use a little common sense and exercise caution and your stay in the Kings Cross area can and will be a safe one.

Yes, Kings Cross is fairly grungy. Was just there for a week, saw only 1 prostitute *at least she looked like one, :-)*. But there is sooooo much development going on, and I do believe, it does get better. Just a short tube stop away is Faringdon, which is definitely up and comer, and by the looks of the cars there, fairly wealthy. Lots of Americans living there, we were told. But back to KC. There is so much work going on at St Pancras and the Kings Cross station to make it much nicer, and I think the neighborhood will soon follow. Didn't have problems at night, and we would get back to our hotel (Comfort Inn KC) around 11 or midnight. I would be careful, just as anyone would be careful walking around at night anywhere, be it in Chicago, Milwaukee or Montreal or any big city, like sticking to the main streets and away from alleyways. Then again, maybe we were just fortunate to have a good experience. The big plus was that KC/St. P's is central to so many tube lines and rail, to take you all over London....from zone 1 through zone 6. Most of your travel will likely be in zone 1 and 2, though.

I use this station for travel to and from family visits in Yorkshire. Extremely busy, but my trains have always been on time. Facilities are good and for whimsy, there's always Platform 9 3/4 and the Harry Potter shop..

There is a very large train and bus station. It's fairly clean and contains some shops and places to eat. It has the Harry Potter store. I didn't really find it that interesting.

Although this modern station is nothing like the original, it does have the Platform 93/4 and the Harry Potter shop. We often travel to st Pancras and go up the stairs and across the road just for this.

We were there just to take a picture of the 9 3/4 platform. There was a huge line of fans waiting to take a picture from the professional photographen. I would, actually, prefer to take my own picture without paying for it.

Hello, we will be staying in this area at the end of this month (July 2017) and are looking for something to do for our daughter's 8th birthday. We'll be returning from Stonehenge early that afternoon, but want to do something special for her, whether it be a fun (kid-friendly) dinner, park, shopping, etc. We also have a 12 year old and a 2 year old with us so kid-friendly activities are a must. Thanks for any suggestions you are able to provide!
