Neighbourhood: City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.

The original building at the Tower constructed 1000 years ago by the Normans under the guidance of William the Conqueror. That alone makes this an amazing sight to see. However, inside is where you will find an incredible collection of medieval armor and weaponry including the armor worn by Henry VIII and other legends of English history. A visit to the White Tower is included in your visit to the Tower but can be explored after you have seen the Crown Jewels and taken a tour with a beefeater.

Built by the Norman king in the 11th century as a last bastion in case of invasion, it is the oldest part of the whole complex. It occupies the central part of what over the centuries, with the addition of other buildings, has become an entire citadel. Safe fortress but also infamous prison, armory, mint, archive.... today houses a rich collection of armor some really impressed, such as the armor that belonged to Henry VIII. Inside you can also see the oldest chapel in London, St John’s Chapel.

If you visit the Tower of London, a visit to the White Tower is a must.
There is so much history in the building and if you are into armour then this is a must, with Henry VIII’s armour on view.
Be aware there are a lot of steps so you need to be quite mobile!

At the heart of the Tower of London, and standing tall is the White Tower. If you went to the Tower of London, you saw this. Of all the things to see at the Tower of London, the White Tower has the most for young children, so please don't be put off by the warning signs of over 204 steps. Yes there are lots of steps, but it's worth it. In the Armoury section there is a room filled with interactive arcade machines, where you can shoot arrows, assemble firearms and brandish a foam sword to test your calvary ability. Looking at all the armour and weaponry is also interesting if you take time to read the information panels.

This is the inner keep in the Tower of London complex. We had a great time wandering the many floors of this Medieval structure where so much history has taken place. The arms and armor exhibits were amazing, but for me climbing spiral staircases from the Middle Ages was itself a worthy experience. Just to be in an old building like this is special.

A must see of the whole tour. So much to see. It can get busy but plenty space for everyone to see. Fantastic displays of the armour. I watch the TV program of the Tower of London and was great to see in person

PROS
* Amazing historical building constructed in the year 1068
* The architectural centerpiece and main symbol of the entire Tower of London
* Incredible and stunning museum displays of historical British royalty stuff and tools and implements of medieval warfare
CONS
So much stuff is displayed in there that it can get crowded
"I VISITED THIS PLACE"...
... because it is the central building of the Tower of London complex.
I was thrilled with being inside such an outstanding and incredibly intact structure that was built almost one thousand years ago.
The exhibits were wonderful and stunning and mesmerizing. I loved all of it on all of the floors.
I loved going down the winding four flights of stairs, and I have many videos of it
Of course I had booked this Tower of London, Tower Bridge, Sky Garden and a play at the Shakespeare's Globe Theatre all in one day, so I was moving fast and didn't have time to savor and enjoy the absolute treasures that are displayed here.
WAS IT WORTH THE COST?
Going to the Tower of London once for almost 30GBP was worth it- once
WOULD "I VISIT THIS PLACE" AGAIN?
For that cost? Maybe yes/maybe no/maybe so
ADVICE
* Be sure to budget a good amount of time to peruse all that is displayed here
* Be sure to go to the top and then all the way down on one of the spiral staircases
FULL DISCLOSURE

Just had to see the Tower of London again; the “Line of Kings” was an amazing exhibit. 🗡👑 Even the wooden horses displaying the armor has historic origins. 🐴

Really interesting to have a look through the old armour and weapons. The times we just a brutal time in history, with the different ways of killing/torturing people was just sadistic. When you have a look at the armour, look closely at the equisite engraving

A tower from Norman time still standing. Visitors to this tower treated as pedants from that time from security who think of themselves as lords from that time.
