Famous for its sprawling cluster of markets and shops as well as for an embrace of all things counter culture, Camden offers a concentrated version of London street life. From bargain shopping and people watching to rubbing elbows in its abundance of pubs and bars, Camden is the place to be for many a Londoner. It is also home to some of the hottest live music venues in Europe. As packed as Camden High Street and its tributaries can get during the weekends, this neighbourhood is right next to some of the city's most beloved outdoor spaces, namely Regent's Park and Primrose Hill.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

What on Earth has happened to the place? I used to visit here with friends a lot around 25 years ago. It was hip and cool with loads of second hand clothes stalls in the stable courtyard and cheap world food to be eaten on the move. Now all the stalls are in purpose built pods where the rents have obviously pushed prices through the roof. Maybe a victim of the Health and Safety culture or just greed? Who knows. But trust me on this one; it is a shadow of its former self and no longer has the same chilled vibe.
Shame.

A very cool place to visit if you are a new visitor to London it's easy to get if you are using the tube. The main high street as so many shops to browse and a market at the top with bars and restaurants a plenty you will be spoilt for choice... Every time i visit i eat at different places just so many awesome food choices to choose from. The street does get busy with crowds but it's Camden so it's to be expected.

As a punk rock fan, I thought this street would be cool. Instead, it was the opposite. Most of the "shops" are souvenir stores run by very pushy store owners.

The crowds are unbearable. I was almost run over strollers a few times. If you have ever been to vintage store in your own town, then you will see what they sell here is not unique.

I didnt see any "street art" . The Only "art" was on store fronts. Sure, some of them were cool, but they are for commercial use....so not "street art".

I've come into Camden Town many times over the years and of course walked along Camden High Street. It's become increasingly touristy, although in some ways that's a complement. The last time I came was 3 years ago and it's still a great place to be with it eclectic collection of shops and markets. Some of the shops have amazing sculptures as part of their facades. As other reviewers have commented, some of the prices now rival central London.

Still great shopping place though.

Went to Camden on a Saturday at 5pm with my in-laws, partner and 13 year old daughter, to show them the sights.
I worked down the road in Mornington Crescent from 2001-2008 so used to come here a lot and also cam here in the late 1970's when it was cool and trendy.
We got off the tube at Camden and saw lots of police running around as there was someone with a penknife running around.
Got out of the station and walked 20 years towards Camden Lock and then decided that enough is enough.
The stench of cannabis was over powering and you had the feeling that your bag was going to be snatched.
This has turned into a bit of a nasty place which I just would not trust any more.
Walked back to Mornington Crescent as didn't want to go back into Camden station, and then left the area.
Won't be going back.

I first went to Camden 25 years ago & went yesterday for the first time in 3 years and was dismayed at what the place has become! The pubs are over priced (with dirty toilets with no locks on the doors or toilet seat in 2 pubs!) and all the interesting stalls and shops selling goth, tie dyed & hippy type clothes & decent boots all seem to have been replaced with shops selling tourist tat! we counted 9 shops which sold nothing but London magnets/keyrings/phone cases & smoking accessories & unofficial replica football shirts & other rubbish in a 5 minute walk of each other along the High St! The canal market has been removed to be replaced with expensive blocks of flats. If you're visiting for the first time it probably seems cool but if you remember the second hand clothes places in the now revamped Stables markets & the cheap world food stalls you're going to be disapointed to find over priced food in purpose built cabins & designer knock offs. I think the place has become a victim of its success & won't be hurrying back!

We stopped by to look at the buildings. The atmosphere itself is also special and not something we experienced in other parts of London. The 12-year olds didn't enjoy the visit as much as the grownups. They seemed a bit frightened.

This is a lovely and hectic street, which sets the entire atmosphere of Camden Town.
It features a countless array of shops, eateries and local residences (which you can EASILY recognize).

The best way to experience Camden is to wonder around checking the shops and cafes. It has a punk rock, rockabilly, vintage feeling.

I always enjoy visiting Camden the food and vibes and every and all the cool stuff you find in the shops or just having a drink by the canal. It’s always nice on a sunny day.
