- Alastair HEdinburgh, United Kingdom32 contributionsHidden GemA hidden gem. Tucked in behind the Empire theatre its no wonder it plays on the famous patrons who have sampled the local ale. There are photos of A list to Z list stars and everything in between. The pub is so much more than this though, it feels like a local. Cosy and welcoming. The Scouse is a must.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 October 2023
- Karen J4 contributionsA great findWe visited after it was recommended as we were leaving the O2 Academy nearby. A lovely pub full of character, very friendly and a great atmosphere. This fantastic pub has a theatrical themed interior with many picture's throughout the whole pubs interior relating to star's of the screen and from the theatre and there has been many famous stars who have been to here as the Empire theatre is in front of this superb pub. We visited here fairly early in the afternoon and it was very busy. When we went to here we had a few pint's of Moorhouse brewery beers which where brilliant and well priced considering the pub we were in.A fantastic pub in a fantastic area and so easy to find from Lime street train station its only a few steps away. - Chris W30 contributionsDon’t let one person spoil your nightCame here for the scouse to try for the very 1st time tonight, and wasn’t disppointed. Really friendly waitress who was running around the packed pub! Also the bar lady who served me was courteous and welcoming. But the male staff member wearing the Xmas jumper didn’t look like he wanted to be there and I received a few daggers (stares). Was having a good time until I went to get a drink and was waiting to be served and that same bloke decided he’d ignore me and serve a fella who just walked thru the door. So we left to spend our money elsewhere (lost a star for that), Great way to end two great days in Liverpool after coming all the way from the other side of the world PS don’t wear a Xmas shirt if you don’t have the Xmas spiritVisited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 December 2023
- Neil KLiverpool, United Kingdom829,468 contributionsProper festive vibeHaving just been in Liverpool Christmas Market for an hour or so ,had a beer and a hot wine there ,overpriced ,market looks good but it lacked the Christmas vibe ,playing 80's pop tunes ,very weird ,I can put up with the inflated prices but lack of atmosphere ,not acceptable so my twin brother and I saunted over to Ma Egerton's and the contrast was like night and day ,pub beautifully decked out for the Christmas period, staff happy to see you ,just a great vibe in here . We were here on a freezing cold Thursday December afternoon ,pub busy ,a quick study of their real ale's and we both opted to have a pale ale each from Moorhouse Brewery ,these were served in excellent condition ,we chilled out and soaked up the great vibe in this busy and popular pub. My pale ale was really good ,a golden ,well balanced pale ale ,hints of caramel ,a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a delightful hoppy finish to it,a classic British pale ale indeed. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to here we had a great home. Ma Egerton's Stage Door is easy to locate on Pudsey Street. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.Visited December 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 5 December 2023

Prime Minister Boris has laid down the roadmap out of the pandemic for the hard hit hospitality sector with pubs being allowed to reopen on the 12th of April with outside service only and from the 17th of May inside and outside service allowed and by June 21st more or less back to normality so once again it will be great to visit pubs such as Ma Egerton's Pub.
A very cool pub indeed, two roomed ,a cool looking serving bar, nice decor and furnishings and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside, a very traditional back street boozer ,the type of pubs I love.
My twin brother Stephen and I were here just before the 3rd national lockdown descended, track and trace in operation, hand sanitisers, table service and contactless payment, we were allocated a table were we ordered pizza's which were absolutely delicious and filling and pints of guinness which were served in pristine condition, made to feel so welcomed in here as we always have been over the years and we can't wait to revisit here again.
I believe this pub will reopen on the 17th of May, hope I'm wrong, hope its the 12th of April but no matter when it reopens I will most certainly be there as its such a warm, welcoming and fun pub ,famous as well .
Ma Egerton's Pub is easy to locate on Pudsey Street behind The Liverpool Empire Theatre and adjacent to Liverpool Lime Street Railway Station.
Most definitely well worth checking out when the 3rd and final lockdown is lifted.

My twin brother Stephen and I decided to drop into Ma Egerton's Pub after a long train journey back from Newcastle Upon Tyne were we had just enjoyed a great week seeing the sites and visiting the many pubs to be found in that vibrant city.
This pub is superb, two roomed ,a small but eye catching serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings, tv's to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub both inside and outside, it a really good pub.
We were here on a Saturday afternoon, pub was getting busy with a great atmosphere, the Liverpool v Chelsea match was about to begin so we ordered beers each, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we just kicked back, chilled out and enjoyed the footy while sipping our beers.
I must say the vibe in this pub was really good ,staff in here are excellent and make sure everyone is having a good time ,service is exceptional, beers are superb, we stayed here for a few more beers, enjoyed the footy and the atmosphere and when we are back in town again we will most certainly revisit Ma Egerton's Pub.

I've just finished a Groupon deal for a sharing pizza with 2 sides. Oh my word what a find! The breads and dips were beautiful, the garlic bread was crispy and buttery but the Sammy Davies was so fresh and tasty, better than most restaurants I've been to. The staff are immediately your friends. I'll be back. Lovely place and staff ❤❤❤

We spent two lunchtimes here this week and dined on the Tommy Cooper pizza and 2 side portions. The second day we had a fantastic bowl of Scouse each. Both were excellent, my favourite was the Scouse. Full of flavour and not lacking in content! Complements to the chef who wasn't for divulging her recipe....(can't blame her! Cheeky to ask I say!) Friendly folk both drinking and working, slightly hidden away on the other side of Lime St Station this place but 100% worth seeking out and I can't recommend the food enough.

Our first contact with a local Liverpudlian, five minutes after arriving at Lime Street Station: we stopped for a moment just to take a look at Ma Egertons (like, "what might that pub be like?"). Comes this fellow, about the same age as we (not so young anymore), and says: "you definitely should go there".
Well, that´s what we did pretty soon, and repeated this a couple of times during our four nights stay in Liverpool (The Liner being our hotel).
One of the highlights was having a good time listening to and singing with the local Ukulele band (Thursday evenings!) - really enjoyable, nothing forced, just a dozen or so musicians having a good time and willing to share it with others. Don´t miss it!

The man who works behind the bar is quite possibly the rudest person I've had the displeasure to encounter. You wouldn't belive that we are the patrons and he is the server. Firstly we entered the bar and went to order asking a question about the song being played the server said "I'm not a dj im a bar tender what do you want". Secondly I held the door open for the server he shuved his way passed with no decorum, this is after I have heard him speak with other patrons advising "everyone in here is rude why is it so busy" this to me proves his rudness and arrogance. The double standards in this place are rife please avoid. I am from liverpool and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone living here or traveling in. I have given 2 stars due to the alcohol being sufficient but the service is diabolical.

Watch out for the barman (who is covered with tacky silver jewellery), makes out that the card machine isn’t working when making payment so that you will pay with cash so that he can short change you. We are Liverpudlians, not tourists.
Then, after being ripped off you can sit outside and be entertained by the groups of intimidating smack-heads walking up and down who camp out in a doorway just a few yards away. Never again!

Hello fellow Liverpudlians.
We have had issues with card machine so not a ploy. We charge every customer the same so if you felt you’d been “ripped off” we hope this was raised and rectified. Mistakes can be made. No tourist tax at Ma’s btw.
To make personal comments on someone’s appearance isn’t really something to go in a review? Your choice we suppose. 🫤
Cheers.

Stopped by after football.
Very friendly despite my scarf and accent.
It was quiz night and there was a great atmosphere. Don't give the quiz lady any lip though....you will get rinsed.
Proper old school pub. Wood, onyx and brass rather then chrome, cocktails and smoked glass.
You can almost feel the history and the big nights there.
Looking forward to going back this week.

Is Tokyou wheelchair friendly?
Written 24 August 2015
Hi there..The pub is 150 years old so I'm afraid there are some access issues for wheelchairs. We do have wheelchair bound visitors quite often but there are a couple of small steps to contend with - and unfortunately the toilets are not wheelchair accessible. If you would like any specific clarification please do not hesitate to call us on 0151 345 3535. Many thanks
