Found ourselves in Lincoln so went to Steep Hill as it was listed as one of the ten best streets in the U.K. It lives up to that reputation, lovely shops and restaurants etc but beware it really lives up to its name!

This is exactly as named, Steep! It is tough going but worth the effort, lots of lovely tea rooms, shops & of course, the castle & cathedral to enjoy at the top.

I suggest you start at Bailgate and work your way down. Pubs, places to eat and independent retails shops throughout. Worth a walk!

Lovely walk up or down this character-driven street. Loads of cafes, shops and old buildings to see and a great connection between old and new Lincoln. Ran up it on the Saturday morning and I was shattered by the time I got to the top. Made it up without stopping though so a nice challenge for runners! Give the pie... More

I believe it's an ancient law that states ALL who traverse the hill called "Steep" must partake in its many eateries. Oh, and enjoy the climb back up!

Steep Hill is a lovely street with much heritage. Well worth a visit. It's not a really long street but what there is of it is quite steep (!) so wear comfortable shoes!

This is the approach to the castle and cathedral area. If you are reasonably fit and mobile its a must do with plenty of quaint shops and eateries along the route. Our calf muscles ached a bit after going up and down the whole route from the cathedral area to the new town area a couple of times.

I live in Harrogate. Lincolnshire is flat. Unlikely to be impressed by a slope. I thought. Be prepared as this hill is steeper than you think and than it looks from the foot. Wear sensible shoes and do not worry about stopping on the way up - it is further and steeper than I anticipated. Some interesting independent shops and... More
