Watermead is a day day out for the dog walkers, runners, cyclist's. There are plenty of entry points around Leicester and most car parks are free. Dogs are fine to be let off the leads. In the summer they have designated BBQ areas, also has ice cream vans in the car parks to cool you down on those Hot days.

A fantastic place to go to see some wetland birds. I hope this area will be allowed to mature and develop to provide this precious habitat for the birds

This park is quite good,it has adequate free parking(at certain entrances) and is very large indeed. There are large areas set aside for bbq's(in certain areas of the park, however they are banned in other areas of the park)there is a large array of wild life in this park, ranging from heron's to tiny voles.one of the problems though, comes from the fact that... Nice pathway to walk round, our dog went for a swim and had a fab time. It was too busy when we visited either. Can't wait to go back.

Or take your bike and a picnic. So much to explore. Lakes, walks in the woods. Go and visit the mammoth on the top of the hill, stop off at the white horse or the Hope and Anchor pubs for a meal or a drink depending which way you go. Miles and miles of beautiful woodland and walks. Bird watch... More

There have been several prehistoric remains found in these flooded gravel pits. The area has been carefully turned into a park by Leicestershire County Council. There are car parks around the edges. Excellent for walkers and cyclists, dog walking. Well sign posted, mostly flat. Some fishing, not suitable for swimming. Great route out of Leicester City, past Abbey Park, Space... More

Watermead park is a lovely place to go either alone or with your family. The walk around the lake can be completed at a leisurely pace in an hour. Great for biking too. My children love the ducks and swans there.

This is a park comprised of a number of ponds and lakes, with tarmac paths around them, and some dirt paths, with the River Soar winding through. It is accessible to all, without steps or hills, many dog walkers use it, as can cyclists, walkers and fishers. It is also an excellent place for birdwatching. I am a regular visitor,... More
