We visited on 25.3.17 and it was gorgeous, they have beautiful walk-ways, that are walking stick friendly. Stunning views, lots of seats available too. The gardens are stunning, lots of trees, shrubs, flowers etc, all labelled. Definitely not a place for children though, which suited us. We're looking forward to coming back in the summer & autumn months too xx

These gardens are well worth a visit when you come to Cumbria. They are open all year round, survive on donations only and the amazing work of it's team of volunteers. Plants are available to buy. We normally visit for about one hour but you could take your time and spend longer. Very relaxing.

What a delight this garden is - we arrived rather ill prepared on a rainy Sunday and were loaned umbrellas. The gardens are beautifully maintained and wonderfully planted. It isn't enormous - but you gain a sense of being the only ones there as you meander along the hillside pathways glimpsing spectacular views of the Windermere as you do. Holehird... More

We found out about this garden only after finding a leaflet in our hotel. It is only about 15 minutes outside Ambleside. The road to it is rather narrow but as we went midweek in October, were were few visitors. There is no admission price but it is suggested you give a donation of £4pp. The gardens are well kept,... I went there on 20th October. Glad that I took a taxi (GBP4.50 from Wheatlands Lodge on Old College Lane) as it's too far to walk, and uphill! Walking back to town is much easier, took about 40-45 minutes on a casual stroll. Some sections don't have footpath and you need to be careful there. It's not a huge park,... More

The gardens are open from dawn to dusk but the Reception desk is only open from 10.00 to 17.00 from the beginning of April to the end of October as it is manned entirely by volunteers. More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit today. Lots of colour, lots of interest. Gentians were spectacular. Lovely to see so many happy volunteers. Keep up the good work. I'm sure we'll be back!

There is no charge to visit these gardens but they do have a donation box. Parking is on site with no charge. A lovely way to spend an hour if you are in the Windermere area.

What a lovely garden, with beautiful views over Lake Windermere and into the mountains. The gardens themselves are stunning, with many different areas and lots of interesting plants. There were a lot of plants still flowering, so there was plenty of colour. Visitors should be aware that the only catering facilities are a machine for hot drinks, but Windermere is... More
