There are two entrances to Moot Hall, which is located in the centre of Keswick: the first is at street level and takes you into the ever helpful tourist information centre; the second, which is usually accessed via the stairs to the square tower is currently (23 January 2017) covered in scaffold and unavailable. We've previously visited some great little... More

Moot Hall is not only literally the centre of Keswick but also the centre for information on Keswick and the surrounding Lakes, now it is The Tourist Information Centre... It is situated in the main square/centre of Keswick and you can obtain all the information you'll need on Keswick, Derwentwater Lake, and the countryside around... you can also obtain history... Now a Tourist information center the Moot (assembly building) is still at the heart of the town, and a local landmark. Inside the staff are friendly and extremely helpful... there are maps, guides and a selection of (not so tacky) souvenirs on sale. Any trip to the Lakes in the area should begin with a visit.

Moot Hall is not a large building but is has an interesting history and a prime central location in Keswick. Currently it is the Tourist Information Centre so definitely worth a visit and some research into its history.

Visited here whilst in the town for the day. The current building was erected in 1813, and since then has been a courthouse, a prison, a museum, and the town hall Although the building is quaint, it is actualy covered in scaffolding at the moment, so does not even look that good..The tourist info center is now located inside providing... Tourist information always busy and helpful and always loads of leaflets, info on places to visit, but we only went in on this trip to visit upstairs where they had a display of photographs of the Lakes at night time. What great pictures, and very friendly people talking about them. They had left the lights dimmed to enhance the mood... More
