Theatre by the Lake has a setting on the shores of Derwentwater no other professional theatre in Britain can match. Each year it stages up to nine of its own productions of classic, modern and new plays on its two stages and has won multi-starred reviews from national critics. It also hosts festivals of literature, jazz, film and mountains. There are lifts to all levels and wheelchair users can get to all front-of-house and backstage areas. Both auditoria have enhanced-hearing and induction loop systems.

We saw one of the last performances of Handbags. Not the best of plays nor of acting. The theatre though was like Shangri la in a wilderness of the best countryside for many a mile. You don't expect a theatre in the wilderness of countryside...More

Visits to Lake District always planned around visits to TBTL. This time were privileged to watch the intense and intimate Miss Julie in The Studio and the hilarious and unexpectedly delightful Handbagged. Would see both again. Acting superb, sets perfect. Cannot fault anything.

Impressive small theatre, hidden away from the main tourist throb of Keswick. My first visit. Adequate seating and proportionately placed with good level viewing of the stage. I visited on a Sunday evening to see a tribute concert, which was well attended. Rows of seats...More

We visit the theatre every year during our annual trip to Keswick. It is one of the most welcoming theatres we have been to & have never been disappointed by the productions we have seen. Handbagged was superb.

Lovely theatre in beautiful location. The performances were brilliantly acted. Especially enjoyed After the Dance, costumes and setting fantastic. Interval ice cream was different and delicious. Appreciated the two performances deal.

Went to see this play on 3 Nov 17. The theatre itself is lovely, the seating all close to the stage and there is sufficient leg room. It's staffed by volunteers (typically retired local people) who are clearly proud of the theatre and keen to...More
