A rather damp day to see this property but in January there is not much open. Friendly welcome but unfortunately the temporary cafe only served tea/coffee and chocolate bars and crisps so hardly worth employing someone. Some interesting exhibits in the rooms that were open

We have just spent a week staying in The Eyrie, a self-catering flat on the top floor of Brantwood. It is designed for two people, but is very large. It has a well-equipped kitchen and two toilets! One each! The view from the front window is directly out over Coniston Water towards Coniston village and the Old Man. The weather... More

I took my students to Brantwood as part of graduate student excursion, and it was a really worthwhile visit! Aside from the lovely grounds and the fascinating house, there is a wonderful intimacy to the way visitors can explore the house freely and even play the piano! Although my students had read Ruskin and were aware of his historical importance... More

Our second visit to Brantwood but still plenty to enjoy. Increased our appreciation of Ruskin and his work, which must have been inspired by the beauty of the location. Staff in the house and the café pleasant and helpful. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in the Victorian era, or just to enjoy the ambience.

Arrived via the Gondola steamship. What a wonderful place and so much to see of Ruskin's former home. Staff were very helpful and informative. Lots to see including exhibitions and what a fantastic building and such stunning views. Recommend travelling from Coniston (rather than via the very narrow road on the east side of Coniston Water) on either the steamship... More

I did not realise the significant thought-leadership that John Ruskin exhibited. An artist, poet, aesthete, speaker, moralist. The video is a must see. One wonders how we were never taught about him at school. One of the best single-topic museums I've ever visited.

Brantwood was a fascinating insight into John Ruskin's life. To be able to walk through the rooms where he lived and worked, as well as the gardens which he made and loved, was very revealing and made for a most interesting morning.

We sailed over on the Steam Yacht Gondola & visited the house and grounds. The house is beautiful and the views amazing.

Visited this lovely house on a day when it was so wet you could not see the lake. Would love to go back and wander around the gardens when it is dry. Very little of the house is on show to the public therefore I would consider it a rather expensive outing if the weather is bad.

A really interesting and beautifully preserved house & gardens. Admission costs gives you access to house, studios and gardens, which is well worth it. I'd recommend viewing the information video about John Ruskin as he is a truly inspirational man. The information about him throughout the house was really interesting. We drove so didn't make use of the steam powered... More
