We drove 2 hours to get here. It might seem like a fool's errand but we were determined to see where Christianity was brought to England by St Augustine who converted King (St) Ethelbert under the oak tree - now the Anglo Saxon cross monument...More

This monument stands where an oak tree known as the Augustine Oak was felled. Commemorating the meeting of King Ethelbert and Augustine in AD 597. Heavily carved with religious figures and worth the visit if passing the area. Only a layby for parking.

Down winding lanes with only a layby for parking and a minimum of display boards and no visitors' centre - a very pleasant reminder of childhood holidays with a homemade picnic.

The cross is near where St Augustine landed in this country, bringing the start of our religious beliefs, not much here, but a nice place visit any way. A small lay by to park in, a very narrow road.

Although this is hard to find it is worth a slight detour as it is a relevant and interesting marker in English history. The cross was erected in 1884 and it is decoratively carved and marks the site where St. Augustine brought Christianity to Britain...More

Its a nicely erected modern cross owned by Englush Heritage there is an information board but its nice to go up and study it. There is a nice area of parking for a couple cars but it was tricky to find.

This is an English Heritage site near Ramsgate. But the cross is modern, erected in 1884, marking the site where St. Augustine brought Christianity to Britain in 597.
