Verulamium Park is a public park in the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire....

Verulamium Park is a public park in the City of St Albans, Hertfordshire. Along with being a wide open area for recreational purposes, the park includes all that is left of a Roman settlement from which the park takes it's name.

The large amount of history on view in the park has resulted in a museum dedicated to the Historic Roman heritage upon which St Albans has been built.

The park also includes a long list of facilities including; Tennis courts, sand courts, football and cricket pitches, An athletics track and field facility, a golf course, childrens play area, outdoor childrens Splash Park, a large leisure facility called westminster lodge Leisure Centre which contains a gym and indoor swimming pool, a cafe, a large lake fed by the River Ver, plenty of provision for picnics and family activities and what is thought to be the oldest and one of the most famous public houses in England called The Fighting Cocks.

Overlooking the entire area is the St Albans Abbey, a large cathedral dating back to 1077AD. The park is an epicentre of greenery and wildlife and it is a hub of social and recreational activity that the people of St Albans can be extremely proud of.

I have been coming to this park my entire 32 years. My parents brought me here as a child and i still continue to go and i will take my kids there too. There is a big park in the middle with swings and slides, a roundabout and monkey bars. In the summer they often have a little fair there... More

Lovely walk. Great to see the roman mosaic and walls. Lovely lake with lots of different water fowl when we visited including coots, moor hens, tufted ducks, Pochards, swans, geese and a heron. Well used children's play area and lots of sporting facilities. Very reasonable car parking.

A friend and I took the kids and their scooters to burn some energy off riding round the lakes and in the playground. The lakes are looking pretty dirty and disgusting, and half of the pines in Verulamium Park look browned and half dead. Overall the park is looking tired, and starting to really let St Albans and the historic... More

We are fortunate to live a very short walk from the park, and frequently visit either for a planned walk with family dog or en route to St Albans town centre. For such a historic site there seems to be limited investment in catering outlets and public convenience for visitors. There is a stunning museum and a new water-fun play... More

Regularly visit the park for a stroll and occasional food and drink in the excellent cafe. Lots of wild birds on the lake (e.g. swans, ducks, geese, herons) and the occasional excitingly different 'spot'; today we spotted a kingfisher by the river. Informed a mum nearby (just in case interested, as you do!) with two young children who responded that... More

Always enjoy a walk around the park to see what birds are on the lakes, enjoy the trees and the vista to The Abbey.

Nice park with museum and Roman ruins to visit. Attractions naturally closed on the public holiday but a 5 km run was underway and both the participants and competitors were very friendly to casual walkers Nice lake and a cafe which was sadly too busy, but only because we arrived with everybody as it opened and as the run finished....
