Old Winchester Hill used to be a hill fort dating back to the Iron Age some 3,800 years ago. Lots of information plaques around. Free carpark. Located near to Barton Stacey off the A303. Interesting experience.
This delightful area of Hampshire forms an early (or late!) part of the South Downs Way. We were lucky enough to walk it on a warm clear day, which with the relatively easy walking allowed us to fully appreciate the great views.
What a gorgeous place to spend an hour or so in the late afternoon. Spectacular views (although a bit cloudy while we were there. The information suggested 2 hrs needed - it didn't take us that long, an easy walk and very enjoyable.
Enjoyed a walk along the ridge of Old Winchester Hill in the sunshine, with great views of the surrounding downs & Portsmouth and Isle of Wight in the distance.
