The old quay is worth having a walk around and spending some time just observing the myriad of acti ities going on in the harbour. Ferries bustling back and forth like angry bees, cruise and container ships moving around in a slow controlled manner. Just...More

I always associate the sea with holidays and perhaps always have. Though we usually stay over the night before a cruise we always end up wandering down for a stroll along the seafront and then I get sent down first thing the following morning to...More

Near enough right opposite the cruise ship terminals if you have time go for a wander around. We did before catching our ship in April.

Visited Southampton and went to town quay to watch the arrival and departure of the ferries. Had a great view of the harbour and the passenger boats sailing on cruises. Went to the marina as we had a cruiser hired for a Solent cruise. Parts...More

I was last here about 8 years ago - vibrant and active. now an absolute dump. ridiculous parking, taxis and traffic just sitting there belching out fumes, people wandering around aimless. half the place fenced off and deserted, the other place dingy tiocket offices. soulless...More

I can't understand why there are so many reviews complaining about the parking, it is simple - buy a ticket and you don't get a fine, surely you wouldn't go to a restaurant, try the food and leave without paying.

Be careful! This 'private' car park has number plate recognition upon entry, which I did not realise! I sat in the car for 30 minutes to watch a huge container ship coming into port. I never left the car. I then drove elsewhere in the...More

After being into Southampton we got the ferry back to Hythe. Ferry was small but at 4pm not many people going to Hythe. Is worth a day out. £7.00 RETURN trip.

Thank you everyone for the warnings about Town Quay - Parking Eye are about the worst crooks in te whole crooked world of car parking - and this looks like one of their worst scams. Glad to know in advance to avoid this trap. The Triangle car park not far along the road is more reasonable. There are also Southampton city council pay and display car parks not too far away. The scam of fining you if you happen to exceed 15 mins waiting for a passenger from RFS RedJet or car ferry is daylight robbery coupled with a minimum charge for 2 Hours if you want to avoid the excessive £100 rip off fine for exceeding 15 mins. Not sure if it is Parking Eye of Associated British Ports who sets this policy but whoever it certainly achieves the desired aim of discouraging potential visitors from coming anywhere near this trap. Last time i was there (fortunately travelling on Redjet & free bus to the station, it seemed bereft of life in the evening, everything shut - so why they charge 24 hours a day beggars belief. Who wants to go to this dead place in the evening/night and pay their extortionate parking fees to do so. No doubt their next trick will be to charge to to WALK in this place and fine you if you walk in the area for more than 30 mins!!! Thank goodness RedFunnel are planning to move away from here. Just hope in their plans they will have adequate facilities to drop off and meet foot passengers in their new facilities in stead of this appalling trap at Town Quay
