Forty six years ago I worked in Hythe and lived in Southampton. I caught a bus to the docks, ferry across to Hythe Pier, the train down the pier and walked uphill to the hospital. On my first visit back since 1970 I was keen to recreate my journey. I was delighted to see the train on the pier again... More

Regular ferry with helpful staff, has the choice of walking down the old wooden pier or a ride on the oldest pier train. Great for viewing the cruise ships and ferries. Close to Southampton's shops and park, also bus routes.

what a great thing to have in little town, a long pier to walk down if you want or a little train to whisk you to the ferry which then drops you off in Southampton where you can pick up the free bus into the shopping area. Love it, nice to go past the cruise ships when they are in... More

Train ride and ride on a boat in one day - its ideal!! My kids loved it. The pier is obviously looking a little tired and old, and needs some money spending on it. But we had a great time. All the staff were polite and friendly. We parked in Hythe, went to the park, took the train and boat... More

Absolutely brilliant ride for the money! Great little train up to the ferry ! The public need to keep on using it otherwise it will be gone forever! Quite a cheap way of getting to and from hythe/Southampton !

The signage to the ferry is poor and the lady selling the tickets was off hand and felt unable to be helpful. I had never used the ferry before and asked some questions about it. She obviously felt I was a nuisance and asking stupid questions, very abrupt. Quite expensive, £5.50 for a single ticket. The walk down the pier... More
