Great to see history
Jun. 2021
Portsmouth has many new features - Spinnaker Tower, Gunwharf Quays, so it was nice to walk round Old Portsmouth and see some history. We paid for a self-guided trail. Called in at the Dolphin Pub for lunch - lovely.

Visit Old Portsmouth
Jun. 2021
Navel History, a brisk seafront walk, some cafes, old architecture, a fish market and a beach make this an interesting area in a small space. The Round Tower is open during the daytime so you can walk in and upto he top for free, Great views with seating. Worth pausing to watch the boats. Get to the shingle beach through the hot walls a real sun trap. Lots of info boards about where there's points of interest. Finally take the little back streets for a bit of character buildings. Mostly residential but of interest alongside the fortifications.

Sanitized but very interesting
May 2021
You can easily walk through without realising. The streets and buildings have been renovated over the years. There are many statues, historic buildings and mariners cottages that add to the atmosphere. Scale the sea wall to see where the crowds cheer the departing warships and indeed you can see the tops of these ships in the naval base. There are plenty of places to sit down or have a pub meal.

A Very Interesting Area
Dec. 2020
We first noticed "old Portsmouth a few months ago from the observation deck on the nearby Spinnaker Tower.
We walked from Southsea Pier to Old Portsmouth a brisk 30 minute walk with many interesting sites along the way.
Although the docks area was heavily bombed in WWII, nuggets of old buildings, forts, harbour walls and houses remain. Nice to sit outside one of the old pubs by the harbour walls.
A short distance away is the very diverse Gun Wharf Quay with modern buildings all shiny steel and glass. A diverse Mix!!!

Plaques and Memorials to find in Old Portsmouth
Oct. 2020
The old part of the City, basically clustered around the Port and Harbour. Very popular as a visitor attraction. When strolling around look out for a large number of plaques etc. This is by no means the full number. See which you can find.

Fascinating Walk
Sep. 2020
We spent a fascinating half day wandering around Old Portsmouth. Lots to see and to imagine what the streets and the sally port and fortifications have seen over the last 400 plus years. Plenty of parking, go there, park up and follow the pathway from Southsea.
